Rimy Y B Ootober 6 The steamship Ohio, from Chagres, arrived this morning with $1,600,000 in gold dust t , oh freight, and $BOO,OOO in the hands of the pas sengers. She had 460 passengers, and the Cal ifornia mails to the let of September. Among the passengers are Capt. Stoddarad, and the crew of the steamship Lafayette, which was burnt on the 10th inst. to the water's edge, and sunk in eight or nine fathoms water while preparing to leave for San Juan. The Lafayette bad on board a good supply of coal, and a quantity of freight for San Juan, consisting of dry goads, liquors, specie, &d. Capt. Stoddard was on boatd the vessel when the fire broke out, but found it impossible to check it. The loss was heavy, and but a small portion of it was insured. The Isthmus appears to be infested with rob bers. Many passengeit by that route have been robbed of every thing they possessed. A gold train was attacked by 14 robbers, .two of whom were afterwards captured and the gold recov ered. Four others were shot at, two of whom were mortally wounded. T. W. Rye, 11. .8. Consul at Acapulco, ,has been detained at Panama in consequende of sick ness. He was better at last accounts. G. H. Allen, 11. S. Consul at the Sandwich Islands, arrived at Panama on the 14th of Sep tember, and proceeded on the 16th. From Chili we have later advices. But 70,000 of the 800,000 loan asked by Government had been raiseit. Several shocks of an earthquake bad been felt at Conception. From Jamaica we have very little news of interest. FIRE ANNIHILATOR. Sr. Louis, October An experiment was made on Saturday even ing with the fire annihilator, on a two story frame building erected for the occasion. The building was filled with combustible materials, well saturated with turpentine. The experi ment was a failure. Another experiment will be made in the course of this week. Mismanage ment is stated to be the cause of the failure. Upwards of 2000 persons were present. FROM BOSTON.: BOSTON, October 6. Twip extensive leather houses failed on Satur day. One or two other failures are reported. Mr. Moran and two others were drowned at Blackstone, Mass., on Friday night, by 'being precipitated some 70 feet from the railroad bridge, which they were crossing in a chaise. ' MAB.YLAND FJ.PCTION.
