His monument •is a huge block of marble, of such eccentric shape as to be in' perfect character with some of his sketches, and with the simple inscription—" Wm. C. Neal." • A short distance from this, on the very verge of fifty feet perpendicular to the Schuylkill, arises a lofty monunienta stone cross: There is no name upon it; but the inscription tells the beholder that in and about that spot the deceas ed had spent, in meditation, the happiest hours of his existence, and requests the stranger to prevent the inscription from being obscured by the grass.',Our curiosity was aroused no little, and we shorldlike to have known something of his history; but it appeared that he was stran ger alike to'blL • • - • • The tap of the drum recalled our scattered company, • and we - proceeded to Wissahickon Fallsa beautiful little stream that empties in to the Schuylkill.' This it a retreat, abent, five or six miles from the City, at which one might spend the summer months with infinite pleasure. The wooda around are thick, and the foliage heavy and bountiful. The stream abounds with . email catfish;most pelateable, as was demonstra ted by the number demolished at a supper pro cured for us by the committee of arrangement. This was a grand supper, at: which one of the committee, Mr. James A.l - Fitzgerald presided. The attention of the Gond:lntent Hose Commit tee were most assiduous; and the proceedings of the meeting of our company, which we shall publish, will prove to them that they were not unappreciated. • • Scrious Accident.—Beitreen 1 and 2 o'clock, I yesterday, the mail stage, full of passengers go ing East,. broke down' when near Shows', the butcher, in the Ninth Ward. The following is a' list of the passengers:. F. G. Bally, Penn street, Lady and son; Mr. Merry: and Lady, going to Greensburgh ;'acid sister, of the firm-of Hill aud Carry; .1. B. The front axle broke and the left hand wheel being twisted round wider the bed of the coach, ,burst through it and caught young Bailey, a boy of some 12 years of age under the chin, jam ming his head up against the front of the coach. The pas sengers freely acquit every one of blame. The stage, on a smooth road, was only going at a a moderate pace.
