Hi:memento of the Enemy---More News PHILADELPII 1.1., August 130_ 11b. A. M. 5 By the- arrival of the Southern mail at Rich mond, we have received both the Picayune and Delta. These contain intelligence just received by the Steamer Ohio, from the Brazos. .It had been rumored at Matamoras for .a week that Gen. Scott arrived at the city of Mexico on the s,th, with the loss of 300 men; 'and a is now stated' on good authority, that there is positive in telligence of the Capital having been taken; but, wh-ther there was a battle at Rio Frio, or at the city; or on what day the capital was takerhis not yet certainly understood. It was also stated at Matamoras that Valenciu hurl left San Louis for the capital, with a large f rrCe,in the hope of gaining information respect-! ing Urreaon this side Of the mountains, who was at the head of a body of 4000 men. Gen. Hopping had sent to Matamoros for a a Irmarun of dragoqz; but a single company was ! all that could be sent to him. ..Carrajal had been seen at the head of 250 men, abont 25 leagues beyond Matamoros; and had de I tained a large number of mules, loaded for that; place, together with 100 cargoes of goods, which I had been sent from Matamoras fat Monterey. It was rumored that General Russ, with 3000 men was marching towards Buena Vista, and that other troops were moving to Paris. A company of mounted cavalry had, in conse quence, been stationed at the pass below Saltillo; pickets had been stationed on the road to Agua Nueva; and other measures had been adopted, to guard against any sudden movement of the enemy. Capt. Richey, with two pieces of artillery, had been sent to reconnoitre ; but could not make any discoveries of importance. Information had been received at Matamoras, from Mexicans in Paris, that the Indians had de stroyed three ranchos, and killed 300 Mexicans It was apprehended that an attack would be made on the mouth of the Rio Grande, where there were 70 or SO loads of public property, protected by a guard of only fifteen men. The steamer Washington had arrived at New ' Orleans; but no further intelligence had been Te c-eived by her in time for the mail. We may ex pect more soon. From the Eastern Telegraph, we learn that at Philadelphia they had only heard from the coun ties of Knox and Meigs ; an from these rattans. the election of Neil S. Rrown, the Federal candi date for Governor, is indicated. Many classed him and his invention as a hum bug, (and, alas! many foolish persons without trying, do the same now;) at length, after testing it in the hospitals, the Medical SoCiety of Paris, (the best chemists in the world) delivered the following report to Signor Vesprini : " We have now minutely and carefully examined the singular invention of Vesprini. We have analyz ed its component parts—we have used it in several !cases, and we hesitate not to pronounce it (The Italian Chemical Soap) as a great blessing, and a truly wonderful remedy for any cutaneous eruption or disfigurement of the skin.
