ECM red .LATER FROM MONTEREY. By the steamer McKim, at 'New Orleans, from Brazos Santiago, we have received a large number of letters from our special correspondents at Mate. mciras and the battle ground at Monterey, which contain news of considerable interest. [Correspondence-of the Bitltirnpre Sun.] Gent/mew—l wrote you a. few days since from . 'the Camp at Monterey, since twhen I have been, despatched to this place on public business.. Ae I return tomorrow, I have only time to sar-Vne worth The entire loss in our Battalion (Baltimore.) is 8 killed, and, as .l am informed, 16 wounded=all 'slightly butsone. I have seen none either of the killed or wounded, and therefore cannot give names. Col. Watson was killed in the imprudent charge ordered by (4n.• Butler. He was at the head of the Battalion and had ordered us to go into the charge with three cheers. He received a ball in the breast while in the act of cheering and - fell in stavly. I tried to get to him, but was borne on in the rush. The charge wakineffectual. At this moment Gen. Taylor rode up in great anger and ordered us to retire. Old Rough came up tinder the most tremendous fire. It was here his horse was shot. It is said there were angry words pas sed between him and Butler. Capt. Stewart now took command, and said, "Boys, your Colonel is killed, don't run, show thos4 d—d red skins that although you are ordered to re tire, you intend 'to WALE." With this, he shook his fist at them r end d—d them pretty considerably„ Our entire loss will not be much short of 800 900 killed and woundedthe enemy the same.— Ampudia has given up the main lizirt as per articles of capitulation, and the stun and stripes were float ing over it when I left. There is no doubt no‘Z , but that Ampudia will be reinforced in about one month by 12,000 men. They Will be under Santa Anna. We must have 10,000 more volunteers. Mark that. . The Tennessee and Mississippi ,volunteers were cut up horribly. Kentuck dal not stand the fire well, and Ohio got into a hot place, but soon back ed out of it.' Capt. Barber and Col. McCullough, of Mississippi, also fell mortally wounded, with a number of other officers whose names I cannot re member. The battle lasted three days and two nights, and we had a hot time of it I assure you. Gen. Worth distinguished himself beyond all praise. He is de cidedly. a great man for a fight. 'lie took two bat teries on the first day, and used them on the Mex icans with great effect. We expect another battle at Saltillo so soon as the armistice expires, and as we have now got our hand in, we will give them rougher usage next time. DLraxogAs, (N(exico,) Oct. 2, 1846 Messrs. Editors: Our express leaves here every morning at 10 o'clock. for Point Isabel, or “Tron ton,- as it is now called. My letter of yesterday was penned in the afternoon; and now, at 9 A. a., I am writing you again, after a night spent in sus pence. No boat down from Camargo yesterday, nor as yet to-day. Lbst night we had an alarm. and Matamoras was in a "hub-bub," with all the American population under arms. It was current ly reported that Monterey had been re-taken, and the American army put to the sword; and that the Mexican troops known to be at San Fernanda were to make an attempt to take Matbrnoras. •It was quite an exciting time thrhughout the night; and still this morning, the abenceof news from above tends to keep up the excitement, rendered a little painful by' another report, that the wounded at Monterey, on' their way to Camargo, have been massacred.' I do not believe it, although I place no confidence whatever in Mexican fidelity. TO COUNTRY OCHANTs Sehaol Books, Stationery, Blank Books. • etc. etc. JOHN H. Fr HE unprecedented success that has attended the use of these pills in thipraitice of the proprie tor for the lust six •oreight-years, has - induced him to*yiefikto the importunities of many who have used and been benefifted by them, and make arrange ments to place them within the reach of -the public generally. In doing so he feels called upon to say that the Indian Vegetable Restorative Pills is deci dedly superior to any with which he is acquainted. They combine the properties of many of the best vegetable medicines (used in no other pills) in such manner as to afford not only immediate and tem porary but permanent relief. The valuable tonic which enters into their com position, by their action upon the secretory organs hold in check the purgative principle, and induce a gintle and natural operation, withoutinconvenience or pain, and while they restores natural and healthy action of the stomach, liver and bowels, they in crease instead of diminishing the strength of the pa tient. The general opinionithat a powerful and.vio lent purgative is necessary is founded in error; they in general - irritate the stomach and bowels, derange the secretions, and are productive of very serious consequences, and it should be known that the great mass of pills in jpneral use are composed of the most powerful add irritating purgatives, and act with too great a.degree of violence, producing that de rangement in the system that is 4llowed by 'can stigation of the bowels, indigestion and costiveness. From these facts the natural inference would be that to maintain uniform health it is necessary to correct unhealthy secretions, expel morbid humors and purify the system, by the use of a medicine.that will act efficiently yet mildly,Lassist instead of de ranging the organs of the system, and thus. bring riff-, Lure in its proper and.healthy channel, to accomplish which no medicine is superior to the Indian Vegeta, ble Restorative Pillsi their operation is, in ordinary dorea, to promote a natural and easy evacuation, and at the same time by their tonic property impart vigor and health to the system, but when a powerful and Speedy operatiori is necessary, it will be`accomplish-. ed by increasing:the dose, which may be done with perfect safety, as thoy are entirely Vegetable. They have 'been used as a family medicine -for, Sears by many of .the first respectability, and al the'' . they are not recommended to " heal all the ills that flesh is heir to;" yet it has been found very, rare that it has been found necessary for those using them to bmploy'any other medicine, and their occasional use will almost invariably prove an effectual proven tire to disease. They are exactly adapted to the use °amines, travelefs and seamen; they cleanse the blood, causing a free circulation—open the obstruc tions and promote the secretions of healthy bile, and consequently arc an excellent medicine fur nausea, indigestion, nervous disorders, dejection, liver com plaint, pains in the head, side and breast, costive ness, loss ofappetite, urinary obstructions, ague and Feuer, bilious and intermittent fever, dysentery, rheu matism. scorfula, and are eminently useful in all fe • male complaints—and in one word, all diseases aris ing from unhealthy secretions and impurity of the I blood. Numerous testimonials' of their efficacy in particular eases might the added, hut the proprietorl prefers presenting a lbw ceuificatea of their general character, from persons of unquestidnable cando and veracity, who would not in any degree lend their' . influence to promote anything that is not of decided utility, and rely upon their intrinsic merits to gain them a reputation, feeling a perfect confidence .that none will alandou tliein use who give them a fair trial. Heads of families shahld always keep a quantity of Dr. Osborne's Indian Vegetable Restorative Pills in the house; they never fail. For those who' ate subject to fits, headache, giddiness, dim ness of sight or drowsiness arising from too great a flow-of blood to the head,, should take these pills in preference to anything else, as they are a sure remedy. Females who value good health should neverbe without Dr. 01:bornes Indian Vegetable Restorative Pills, as they purify the 'Mod, remove obstructions, and give the akin a beautiful, clear, healthy and be coming appearance. It has been admitted by a num ber of physicians that females cannot too highly value these pills . CEATIFCATiIS The following certificates are from the Rev. Thus. Newman and the Rev. ELK . Hoax, Walworth county, Win: Dr. Ostiorn.—lt, is with pleasure I inform you of the great benefit which T. have derived from. your , pills. I have been in a decline for some time, which 1 has greatly alarinell me, more especially as my com plaint was a colliftimptive one, and I li,ave also been very billions, and have labored severely with pains in.my head, and my eyes have been so affected as to turn of i Cloudy, sallow and o[4er disagreeable coin pleiions. My wife had suffered also from great weakness and severe pains, and as your pills have so wonderfully relieved ,us, we have sounded the 1 name of them all over ourlpeighberhood ; and wher ever my extraordinary cute is known, as the most valuable preparation for purifying the blood and reg ulating the system.. I should not have known the worth of ynur pills had it not been for the Rei. W. ,F. Dewit, of Cuddebackville, Sullivan county, N. Y., who with great kindness sent me a box to try them, and to that box of pills 1 owe my health; and as the agent herein out of your pills, I wishyou would send me a package of boxes as 30011 as possible. Respectfully, P/CORGE BOWES. Diarcuons.—Dr. Osborue's Indian Vegetable Re. l zstorative Pills should he taken every night for a week, less or more, as the obstinacy of Able disease, l or circumstances are. The usual dose is from 2to 5, according to the-constitution of the person, but they should be taken in sufficient quantities to operate two dr three times on the bowels. Very .delicate persons should begin with but two, and increase as the natuie of the case may require. Those more ro bust or of very costive habit, may begin' with:three and increase to six, or even more if it shall be found necessary, and they will effect a sufficiently happy change to guide the patient in .their future use, Each box contains from 35 to 49 pills—Price 25 cts.
