And posses sing in an eminent degree, all these merits., Ads Invention is conceded to be one of the moat useful and valuable ever brought before the public. Apd coming, as it dow, within the reach of all, It cannot lint find an unprecedented sale and undivided market among farmers, housekeepers, mechanics, merchants &c. everywhere, to .the exclusion of every other weighing apparatus. • • • The invention of the Seeks and the iimuy invaliii- We improVorients which we have made within the past few months, have brought them to such a de gree of accuracy, that they may be safely relied Mi en in every transaction -of weight. . Manufactured and for sale only by . 11. H. EATON & CO. Sn , q. Co., ra., May In, 1857. OPINIOM OF ME PRESS rottr.o.r I,:vt,NrloN,—lFor some five years past,l l Mr. 1). M. Sni3lh, of Pent isyhania, know of this Stat.e)ll Rai in g eniou, ,d. L,scientific mechanic, has concentrat-il ed his mind - and means Upon an invention at length perfectly suceessftil, and for which letters patent have '' fast been istreti by the Government of the rutted :States. This invention is linoun as " Smyth's Self- Acting'llent-Leyer I'lllqt - win Scale," and as this is the first_rblic notice of this.useful and valuable im provement; ne . ,hall take die _liberty of eipressing ourselves freely.npon its merits. The platform of the scale is about 12 by 18 inches, and the whole scale is about S. inches high and Weighs entice only alumt 25 ponnils., while it has the.extraordinary capacity o. weighing any object front one ounce to four huntired pounds. Its foiin is compact and convenient, and is applicable to emery purpose for whirl scales of any kind are - recptired. Under the platform and attached to the leverage is suspended a weighted arm or pen dulum. To this pendulum is attached an indicator, which, together with the pendulum, the instant any object is placed upon 'the platform moves from its centre of gravity to da2 point indicating] the 'exact weight. The scientific principle upon which it acts admits of no inaccuracy or change, and a 'given pres stire or weight upon the platform must always carry the weighted arm and indicator to the same point.— The principle beyond doubt is the correct one, and that it has been properly applied in this instance, the lucky inventor has left no room for doubt. lie seems to have attained perfection itadf—at least so far as Platform Scales are concerned, and to have combined in a remarkable degree an invariable scientific prin. ciple, "known of all men," with' compactness, con '-eniencc, strength of form, durability and accuracy. But the great and important feature in this ScoWia the fact that beyond all the merits it possesses the additional one et being cheap, and within the reach .of every fiimily.—Alany LW. Jour., Jan. We ,have examined this new Platform Scale and concur in all that is said by the Journal. The prin ciple is at once simple and beautiful, and ensures perfect. accuracy ' while'the price will be three times less than of the scales now used.—Albany Erpres.v. SUTTIT'S PATENT PI...AMA:NI Scats..—We have cx- Mined this new invention. Nothing can be simpler or more completely del eloped than the principle up on-n hie!) its sets. - The platt'rm which sustains the weight lifts a pendulnm, suspended and loaded at the end, through an arc of a circle; and the indicator points out, upon the graduated eirrumfeience, the emet weight.. In other platform scales the rnea.stire of aroirdnpois has 10. be ascertained by moring,a loose weight on a beam, as on a steelyard; till it hits the precise point. Smyth's invention is a self-rfrork ing one,- and indicates at once, and to the minutest fraction, the figure: Br attaching the weight on the end of the pendulum, the scale becomes multiplied by fires or tens: by releasing the weight it . gives ounces instead of pounds. For household purposes, it is ai cher.p and far better than steelyards ; and is finding the nay to all well regulated kitchens where the, receipt hook, with its prescriptions of weights and proportions, is thled.7-A llan and Aryn.e. ANEW Inta—lf anybody doubts that this is an iv ventive age, they should call and examine Smyth's Self-Acting Bent-Lever Platform Scales. For simplic ity of design, and economy of space, they take prece dence of any scales that have yet bcert invented.— There is one peculiarity about this scale ; it pt*ses se.s Ter's little machinery, and can never make a tail:- I:Ike so long. as the laws of gravitation continue: Sinyjh's scale has another advantage—its small cost. -LEviekerbockeT. S3ITTII'S PATENT PLATFORX SCALE...-ThiS new aud valuable invention was on exhibition at our State Fair just cloned. Nothing in its department received more attention - or was more generally admired or ap proved._ This - scale, possessing the extraordinary merits conceded to it at the East, cannot but be' ex ceedingly valuable, and must, we think, tome into general use. The Albany Evening Journal publishes the above, and adds: This scale (Smyth's) was also exhibited at the State Fair at Waterjpala, and not only received every attention given it In Ohio, but carried off the first fad highest premium awarded—a diploma and silver medal.--Clerrioad (Ohio) Journal. " SAITTII'S SELF-ACTING BiCT-LEVEIL PLETFOILit Sc.u.k."-- . The fundamental principle of every impor tant invention has been very simple. In its simplici ty is the elements of its worth; its usefulneSs and.a tiaptability. Inventions of complicated movement and visionary theories have never performed 'the ob ject stiuglit to be obtained, for with adaptability; ac curacy and durability must be combined cheapness. All of these.desideratums are involved in the inven tion recently patented and known as `-` Sm3 - th's Self- Acting Bert-Lever Platform Stales." The scale in question, from 4 its construction on the principle of gravitation, is never liable u 4 ,lie out of order. It must perform its work thoroughly, because the laws of na tare govern it. : In site the scale is a pigmy, but for .capacity it is wonderful, weighing any -object from 'one ounce up to lour hundred pounds. It - can be reg. • 'dated by any one who looks at it but for a moment. As their cost is but n trifle, they will speedily be as indispensably necessary in the household calendar as any other useful article of daily use.—Eee.Tramurip. 111.0011T.INT AND VALUSIILE Lvvwrzos.—Among 'others, we have been favored with an examination of the new and valuable invention (recently, patent ed,) known as Swyth's Self-Acting Bent-Lever Plat form Scale." ,Mr. D. M. • SmYth, the ingenious in ventor, has spent some fere.years in the perfection of his work, and that he has attained pertedion there seems but little doubt. This scale is construct ed. upon a scientific principle which knows no rade tion.or change, and hence its accuracy is beyond (location. Its capacity and strength is unprecedent ed, while its form and the principle_ involved make it convenient and applicable to all purposes requiring scales of any description. It is free from any coal- Plication liable to variation or to get out of order. The great and important feature, however, of the . scales made under this invention, is the feet that they can be afforded,at about-me-fourth the eost of any . other platform scale of like capacity and nectiracy in . the world.. The scale we have seen (a sort of pocket edition as compared :with other platter= scales,) has the wonderful eapacit:i:c4- weighing any object, from ono ounce up to -four hundred pounds. Pos sessing the extraordinary merits and advantage, con ceded to this invention,it cannot but be exceedingly valuable, and the scales made under it, brought as they will be, within the reach of every family, 'must meet with an unprecedented sale, and come into Ma mediate and general use, as well to the benefit of the public, as to those so fortunate as to secure the elusive right of manufacturing and vending them.— I State Register.
