In this Slate the Republicans have elect ed the State Treasurer by about 85,000 majority, and the Judgo of tho Supreme Court by about 85,000. The result as to the local candidates throughout the whole state hag developed the fact that voters have refused to be bound by caucus nomi nations in the choice of these offices. OHIO. From Ohio the returns como in slowly and are as yet of a very unsatisfactory character, and it is impossible to stato defi nitely who will bo tho next Governor. The Domocratic Slate Committee, from their returns received from eighty-two counties official, and guesses as to the other coun ties, now claim Allen's election by 609 majority. There is considerable doubt as to the balance of the ticket, but the chair man of the Democratic Committee is of opinion that the Democrats have also elected the State ticket, with the exception of White for Supreme Judge and Wilson for Comptroller. They also claim sixteen on joint ballot iu the General Assembly. The Republicans do not give up as yet, and claim that nothing but full official re turns can definitely decide the question as to who is elected. ' low A. The Republicau State Central Commit tco says that in sixty-six counties heard from Governor Carpenter has a net majori ty of 12,417. In the same counties lust year Grant had a majority of 43,000. The counties yet to be heard from will undoubt edly increase Carpenter's majority not less than 0,000. CALIFORNIA. In California the tickets have been scratched beyond all precedent and it is probable that McKinstry, independent can didate for Supremo Judge, is elected by about 5,000 majority. These figures will not be materially changed by the returns to como in. Thanksgiving Proclamation. The President of the United States has issued tho following : The approaching close of another year brings with it the occasion for renewed thanksgiving and acknowledgement to the Almighty Ituler of the universe for the un numbered mercies which he has bestowed upon us. Abundant harvests have been the rewards of industry, with local excep tions : health has been among the bless ings enjoyed, tranquillity at home and iieace with other nations have prevailed, frugal industry is regaining its merited re cognition, and it merited rewards. Grad ually, but, under the providence of God, surely as we trust the nation is recovering from the lingering results of a dreadful civil strife ; for these and all the other mercies vouchsafe it becomes us, as a peo pie, to return our heartfelt and grateful acknowledgement, and with our thanks giving for blessings we may unite our prayers for the cessation of local and tem porary Bulterinpn. i, tnoreiore, recoin. mend that on THURSDAY, the 27th of Kovembkil the people meet in their ro spective places of worship to make their acknowledgement to Almighty God for hi bounties and his protection, and to offer to llim prayers for their continuance. A few days ago the citizons of Brashear, were startled by the rumor that the wife of a well-known Baptist preacher had gone to Texas with her husband's hired man. She had previously bore a good reputation, had lived with her busbaDd fifteen years, and was the mother of three children, aged, respectively thirteen, six and four years. Her husband became aware that all was not right, and a few months ago paid off and dismissed the man who was the cause of his domestic unlmppiness ; and he wont, but ouly to a place near by, whero ho pro cured a new wagon. Then he bought a horso of bis former employer, and with another horso, procured somewhero else, he rigged an outfit for Texas, as he said. When he was all ready the lady coolly informed her husband that she loved George better than himself or chil dren, and that she was going with him. The husband remonstrated, and told hor that when the reaction came, which surely would como, she would bo most miserable ; but nothing would induce her to bo sep arated from George. Bhe thrust away hor littlo children who clung about her neck, and her husband with a heavy heart, divid ed bis household goods with her, giving her and her paramour half of such things as they could carry with them. He also told her that she could take some books from bis library if sho choso. She took only her Bible and hymn book. Her husband exprossed the hope that sho might read the Bible nud profit thereby. At 10 o'clock, or thereabouts, in the darkness of the night, tho eloping pair started off, piously requesting the deserted husband to pray that they might bave a safe and prosperous journey. His early education had been somewhat defective in arithmetic, for he offered to sell his eutire wagon load at GO cents per half bushel, or 'i per bushel. Baskets and sacks were begged or borrow ed, and every oue was buying potatoes at GO cents per half bushel. The man did not see it until tho last half bushel was Bold. He persisted in selling at GO cents per half bushel, thinking doubtless that there were four half bushels in a bushel. Another said ho would take three half bushels. A third took two half bushels. Before the man commenced the retail business, a gro cer bought two bnshels for his own use at $3 a bushel. He ottered $1.00 a bushol for the whole load, in order to sell again, but was refused. When tho man saw his blun der, he held up both hands and exclaimed, " Oh I thunder !" A Collision.
