R., on Monday the 12th inst., Hon. C. J. T. Mclntire was elected Secretary, and W. A. Bponslcr, Esq., Treas urer of the company. , Every member of the board of Directors was present, except Mr. Sponsler, who was unavoidably absent in New York at that time. After a full interchange of opinions, it was decided to push forward the work of raising subscriptions for grading the road aa earnestly as possible, and to this end Mr. Jas. Mcllhenny was appointed collect or for the company. lie will not only re ceive subscriptions, but will collect the first installment from all those who have sub scribed and have not yet paid up. Sub scriptions will also be takon by any of the Directors. Stops were also taken, that will no doubt result in securing iron and equipments for the road, whenever the grading is com pleted. Now we ask the citizens of this county to Support tho officers of the company in their endeavors to bring this enterprise to a successful terminus. The kind of sup port they need and most have, is good subscriptions, and those subscribing are assured that they shall either have a road, or shall not be called upon for the payment of the sums subscribed. We have no doubt but what this road can and will be built, for it cannot be pos sible that the citizens of the county will be so blind to their own interests as to let this opportunity to enhance the value of thbir own property, and to add to the wealth of the county pass by unimproved. It may be proper here to state that the proposed road is to be the same guage as ' tho Penn'a. R. R., so that lumber, bark, cattle and grain, which cannot well be re shipped when once loaded, will And their way to market without any transfer. a ' The Fish Commissioners. Governor Hart ran ft has appointed James Duffy, of Lancaster county, Howard J. , Reedor, of Northampton county, and Bej. li. Hewitt, of Blair county, Fish' Com missioners, under the provisions of the act passed by the Legislature last winter to provide for the appointment of a Board of Fishery Commissioners, for the construc tion of fish ways, for the protection and pro- ' pagation of fish. The provisons of the law are mainly applicable to the eastern coun ties, although there are some that cover the State and effect the wholo people. The Commissioners are to bold office for three years, and to receive as compensation only the reasonable and necessary expenses incurred in the performance of their du ties. Their general duties, aside from the construction of fish ways, are " to forward the restoration of the inland fisheries of the rivers aud waters of the commonwealth, and to stock the same with fish in succes sion to their judgment, as they shall be supplied with means therefore." For the construction of Ash ways over dams in the Juniata, Susquehanna, Lehigh and Del aware rivers, there Is appropriated $25,000 . to be expended during the current year ; $30,000 to be expended in 1874, and $20 000 in 1878. i. Terrlbie Affair. A letter from Atchison Kansas, dated the 11th inst., says: James Erickson was arrested at Wetmoro, forty miles from here, some time ago, for an alleged attempt at rapo on the wife of one Marquette, aud was acquitted. He returned to Wctmore on Friday, and on Saturday be went to Marquette's house, Rnd when the latter came to the door shot bim dead. He then took Marquette's two small children to a neighbor's house and left them, saying be had killed thoir father and was going back to kill their mother. An alarm was given, but the neighbors feared to enter the house until thdjr were reinforced. Upou entering they found Mrs. Marquette lying on a bed in a nude state dead, shot in seven places. Erickson was lying across the body, also .dead. It appears that be had ravished the the woman before killing her, aud then killed himself. tW A disease somewhat similar to In flammation of the stomach hat caused the death of largo numbers of cattle in Chester county. ' ' " . . ' " "' A Urave Yard Fight. A fow days ago Major Ferris and others, with the consent of the relatives of the family, excepting a sister, Mrs. Sarah V. R. Taylor, undertook the removal of the remains of a father, mother and other near relatives, from Ferguson's graveyard, (so called from its proximity to corners of that name,) to a burying ground about one mile south of Melville.N. J. They accomplished thoir undertaking safely and unknown to tho Taylor family, between, whom have boon family difficulties. After removing the bodies thoy returned for the tombstones ; but in tho meantime the Taylors heard of tho proceedings, and driv ing down to the ground, about a mile dis tant from their house, saw what had been done, and became so enraged that they broke the headstones, Riicfc acted so furious ly that the Major aud his man had to aban don the attempt of removing the stones at the present. On the 18th inst., however, Major Ferris and force of men, numbering twelve or fifteen, again repaired to the ground for the purpose of removing the fine monu ment, costing about $100, erected by Major Ferris and brother, and other relatives, for which the Taylors had never contributed anything. Whilo engaged in the work, the " Taylor Brigade" made their appear ance, bent on a battlo or on a raid. An altercation ensued, tint words followed fast and furious, and then tho Taylor force be gan to smash things generally, during which one of the women seized a spado and began to chip off tho raised letters on the monument's base. This tho Ferris blood could not endure, and they told the Taylor force to " get out of thnt instantar." But they declined, and a pitched battle was the result. After a short encounter, during which the Taylor force hurled missiles at the mon ument, defacing it it, and the red blood of the contesting forces commingled, the Ferris force were triumphant. They took tho monument, the Taylor party retiring vanquished and content. s It is expected the affair will finally end in a lawsuit for damages, aud in which will be developed the most disgraceful and scandalous transactions the community ever witnessed.
