Womairitti Rights itsid the Woosleynnip — A spicy Debixte. The Wesleyan Conference, 'in session at -Cleveland, had a spirited discussion on Friday, over a report by the Rev. G. W. Bainum, on the state of the country, in which woman suffrage was advocated. The Rev. S. M. Snyder, of Illinois, opposed the propo sition, argued against female Suffrage, and proposed to strike out that part of the report which favored it. Mr. .Bainum replied. Several other speakers followed on both sides, but the prevailing sentiment was for the extension of the privileges)of the ladies.. The Rev. A. A. Baker, of New York, said he bad once strong prejudices against, female su ffrage, Yet, in common with others, nq I read and learn, my views are changing. Too long have I placed ,_woman.,. the list of colored men and idiots. cteiYof the best judges in Israel was a woman, and in the days of the Apostles there were deacon esses. What are rights? As a nation we have tried to stand on the broad platform of representation and taxation,• going hand in hand. Society is so changing that the mar ried women hold the titles of real estate largely. Woman's power to govern ! Sir, say what you will, woman rules the world. Brother Snyder's wife governs him. And I confess to a similar weakness. Love is that ruling power. 'Notice the mother's love ! How it controls! In woman's presence pro fanity ceases. "Women not warriors ?'• Joan of Arc is a clear argument. We respect those who have equal rights with ourselves. If women had a right to vote intemperance would vanish. The Rev. L. C. Partridge said Wesleyans were the wrong people to put down wo , nen, since they vote in all our churches. Halj of the delegates to this Convention were ~ent assisted by women's votes. The amendment failed by a large ma jority, and the report was adopted by a large majority. A "Bank Breaker , ' at Homburg. • Galignuni says: "From a letter we mote just received from Homburg we learn that the same Maltese millionaire who in 1865 broke the bank at Baden has renewed his ex ploits this 'year. A few days ago he did the same in that town three times running. The Prince of Wales happened to be there at the time, amusing himself with pia} ing a few Napoleons from time to time; the Duke "of Hamilton and Mustapha Pacha were also among the visitors. He then started..for Berlin, taking Homburg on his way, an at this latter place won three hundred thou sand francs, but did not break the bank, because the director kept sending hank noses as long as the play lasted. The ct,:olness with which toe Makes; matador played struck every one with aston ishment: so much so that the director of the Homburg bank called upon him the day after and told him he had never seen a gentleman play with the same impassive demeanor, since he was not more moved than the bank itself. But what is narrated as most singular is the circumstance that the Mtitese keeps the money he wins, and does not, like almost all others, win one day to lose double the next. It also appears that he spends his winnings most freely, giving large sums in charity and presents, and that he has thus become well known among the personages who frequent these bathing places. in 1866 7 it appears, he did not pay any visit to Germany."
