IrIIOII 128TEZDAT'S =coo GAZYTTIL A C arm of scandal—Attempt to Shoot, etc. The lovers of gossip In and around the quiet town of Beaver have been enjoying a new piece of scandal during the past few days. It appears that Wm. B. Barclay, a prominent resident of the town, and the head of a family, had taken under his care a y oung lady, who la a niece of his wife and his own second cousin, and had been superintending her education. A few days ago, while riding along the road in Brighton Township, In company with the young lady, the buggy was stopped at a point which was dickered by trees, and while the movements of the occu pants could be plainly seen by a resident of the neighbothood named li. Reisinger. he had the advantage, from bin position, of being concealed from them. Mr. Belanger, thinking the conduct of Barclay was deserving of exposure, let the cat out of the bag, and soon the whole neighborhood was agog In reference to the scandal. The report soon reached the ears of Mr. Barclay himself, and putting on an air of outraged innocence, he determined to call Reis inger to personal account. He procured a pis tol, with which be threatened to shoot his al leged defamer. - Reisinger became alarmed, and In order to put himself right on the record, (but not with an Mention to prosecute Barclay,) went before Justice Herron, of Brighton town. ship, and made affidavit as to what, he had Ban ally seen occur between Barclay and the young lady, It was supposed that the matter would end here, and probably it might, had It not been for Barclay himself. Meeting Reisinger in Beaver, on Thursday, he drew a plata up on him, and attempted to shoot, but for tunately the cap did not discharge the load. Belanger then entered snit against Barclay for assault with intent to kill, and he was arrested and held to answer the charge, and also to keep the peace. The other matter will probably be prosecuted in the shape of adultery against Bar clay. Reisinger's statement Is corroborated by but brother, who was with him at the time, and as both men are reputable citizens It will not be an easy matter to impeach their credibility or motives. The affair has given rise to an unusu al amount of gossip, as the parties to the scan• dal have heretofore stood high in the comma nit y.
