JCPGF. LYNCH. —Wisconsin is rapidly gaining a reputation for disregard of law and contempt fur lend tribunals. Not long since they seized ft prisoner from the Sheriff, while he was on his w;IV to jail, put a rope around his neck, and strangled him. Yesterday the act was repeat ed in Milwaukee, with but slight change ; and a , a orc barbarous act never disgraced a civilized community. The prisoner was PERAR, charged w!t l, the murder of the MEYER family, and found guilty °f niurder in the first degree.— j'!„> circumstances of the murder were horrible, j; js true, but not more so than the manner of lis death. While being taken to the jail, -tirrounded by military, a mob rushed at him ; tin- military gave way, and DEBAR was struck to the ground by a stone. The mob then fell i;1 ou him and mangled him a dreadful manner. '{ r ope was then tied to his heels, and lie was Pm-ord through the streets a distance of half a link;, when he was hung up by his heels to a true, where he remained for several hours. A more barbarous act it has never been our unpleasant duty to record. The APPLE CROP now maturing promises to be very abundant. In Western New Yoik farmers have commonly been obliged to prop up the limbs of tlie trees on account of the quantity of fruit ; and it is stated that on the Western Reserve, Ohio, farmers have made contracts to sell them on the trees, the buyers to nick them, at six to ten cents per bushel. Pknxsi.yi.VANlA TJ. S. SENATOR.—Ex-Gov ernor DAVID It. i'OUTER has written a letter in which he takes strong ground against the h-ralitv of the proposed election of a U. S. Senator on the first Monday of October, to which period the Pennsylvania Legislature, in joint convention, adjourned. The Markets, August 14. Prices of provisions give way very slowly. Onr quotations this week rule quite as high as at our last issue. This is doubtless owing to the small stocks remaining in the hands of op erators. It is useless to look for any material reduction until the new grain is fairly in mar ket, which will be some time hence. The prices we quote arc New York wholesale rate-.
