Jnst outside the line, in Knoxville, the corner stone of the Incarnation chanel was laid. The cornerstone of the Italian Catholic Church was laid in the afternoon with arj propriate and impressive ceremonies in the presence of a large concourse of people. Preceding the ceremonies there was a par ade acting as an escort to Bishop Thelan, which was made up as follows: Troon or Four Horsemen. Hay Tost Rani. The parade, after passing over the princi pal downtown streets, brought up in front of the new edifice. Bishop 1'helan, accom panied by Fathers Gallagher, "Wall, Canne vin, Fshoglos, Bendine and others, clad in their priestly robes, marched over from the convent of the Sisters of Mercy and went through the ceremony of laying" the corner stone. The procession of priests headed by sii altar boys first circled the church, chanting a hymn, while the bishop sprinkled holy water over the walls. After circling the building the procession of priests halted at the southwest corner, where the corner stone, in which was placed a tin box con taining the official records of the church, coins, etc., was placed in position. Addresses in Italian and English. After the corner stone was laid the priests mounted the structure, where a platform had been erected. Rev. Father Bendine addressed the assembled crowd in Italian and was followed by Rev. Father Cannevin, who made an address in English dwelling on the name of the church St. Peters and the works of the Saint, after whom it was named. The new church, which is located at the corner of "Webster avenue and Tunnel street is to be a two-story building of brick and stone and will cost, when completed, f25,000. The basement is to be used as a ccboolroom, and on the second floor will be the church proper. Ten thousand dollars has alreadv been raised and the rest of the money will be ready when the church is completed, which will be in October. DEDICATION AT HOMEWOOD. Opening Services In a Handsome Methodist Episcopal Church. The new Homewood Avenue Methodist Episcopal Church was formally dedicated yesterday, when three services were held. In the morning the dedicatory sermon was preached by Rev. C "W. Smith, editor of the Christian Advocate. The subscriptions at this service amounted to $2,000. The afternoon services were conducted by Rev. Dr. Miles, P. E., and addresses made by Rev. E. & White, Rev. F. S. Orawiord and Rev. Mr. Irons, D. D. The addresses were principally on the way to build up churches and enlist new members. One thonsand dollars was raised at this session. In the evening Rev. C. V. "Wilson preached the sermon and remarks were made by Dr. Miller, the presiding elder. The church is of stone aud brick and was built at a cost of 17,000. She design is Romanesque and the church has a seating deep, allowing sufficient space for a pipe organ on one side and for the choir on the other. The old frame church which has been used for years will be turned into a Sunday school room. The church was organized in 1871, with 18 members, and it now has a membership of 250, with Rev. O. A. Emerson as its proctor. The Young People's Association of the church has contributed largely to its support as well as to the building of the new church. The stained glass windows were fcrnished by this association and the cupola by the Indies Aid Society. THE SHADEACH MEMORIAL. Dedication or a Chnrch Erected to Com memorate a Divine's Services. A handsome little church, erected as a memorial to the life and services of the late Kev. "William Shadrach, D. D., was dedi cated yesterday and christened as the Fifth Avenue Baptist Church. The beautiful weather and the interest in the occasion attracted many persons. The ceremony was of interesting character and continued throughout the day and evening. The new edifice "is located on Fifth ave nue opposite Gist street, and presents a neat and artistic appearance from an archi tectural point. The cost will amount to 58,000. At the morninjr service Kev. Clarence A. Adams, of Franklin, Fa., preached the ser mon, and the financial statement relative to the cost of the buildinj;was made byThomas Corde, Treasurer of the Building Commit tee. The choir, assisted by Mrs. H. C Fry, of Rochester, and Mrs. O. J. Stnrgis, of" Pittsburg, contributed appropriate music. In the afternoon Revs. J. K. Cramer, H. C Applegartli, "V. A. Stanton, D. D., and other divines made addresses on interesting topics, and the pastor, Rev. A. J. Kinsr, led in prayer. The collections during "the two services netted about 5800 in cash and pledges. John Morrow Opens Ulg Season a Weefc Earlier Than Anticipated A Small Con trrecatlon Attend the First Seance, but Jfo Startling Developments Are Ap parent. John Morrow, the ex-reverend of Bethany Home, has begun his campaign against wickedness of the soul and the illness of the flesh just a week earlier than he intended. A regular meeting was held yesterday afternoon at the new home of the latter day apostle on Xunnery Hill, and some 14 of his believers and 16 curiosity seekers raced the dark little parlor where the good Ir. Morrow held forth. The meeting house or abode of Morrow and his much-enduring family is a large 13 room residence, decorated without with a dull, clayey yellow and baked canvas-back duck brown within. A dank, dark feeling is in the atmosphere, which is said to be most conducive to the advent of the spirits. who have plenty of room to enter through the many open windows and roam through out the silent building before descending upon the unfortunate sufferers and healing their hypochondriacal ailments. There are children in the honse, but as thev are Mr. Morrow's children they, like the spirit guests and residents, esch"ew unseemly plays, and the popular silence is unbroken by their voices. Yesterday's meeting began at 2:30 o'clock. The 30 people present, some with a sad, far away expression on their ort-iurrowea faces and a dreamy look in their lusterless eyes, and others with a smile lurking "prunes prisms"-like in a corner of their mouths, sat stiff and formal upon the straight-back chairs ranged around the room. Mr. Morrow ebbed into the room with his brush-like whiskers brushed out sternly and the bright red spots blazing pleasantly just beneath his deep-sunken eyes. A Bible was held in his brown, hairy hand, and his shiny, black coat set religiously upon his loose, long figure. He read a little from the Bible, prayed more from memory and sang with seemly vehemence from a book. Then he blessed everybody, and as no one arose to tell him they had received the much wanted faith he bade them a careful religious adieu. Kissing was not indulged in in the open meeting and the believers lingered upon the porch, but the good Mrs. Morrow was present and the oscnlatory benediction made famous by Mr. Morrow at Bethany was not practiced.
