Hills TTill Be Put In shape for Tnls Char acter of Trade. OFFICERS OF THE KEW 0EGAN1Z1TI0N JSrrCUI. TXLXGRJ.M TO THE DI8Fi.TCH. New York, April 29. There was a meeting of tin-plate manufacturers in piriorFof the Fifth Avenue Hotel this afternoon. It was the outcome of an in formal meeting of Pittsburg manufacturers held some time ago in that city. It was stated that there are a number of mills al ready adapted to rolling sheet for tin plates, and it is thought a comparatively small outlay would put many others in shape for this character of work. The manufacturers say that if it becomes possible to leave the rolling of sheets to the mills who are now equipped for the work and have the tinning plants proper in the hands of others, it is thought the industry would be thoroughly established with less expense. The meeting was to effect a temporary or ganization of manufacturers in the United States, and, as Secretary Britton said, to promote the manufacture of tin and tin plates all over tbe country. The following were present: B. M. Sommers, of Sommers Bros. & Co.; W. C. Cronemejer and Mr. Williams, of tbe United States Iron and Tin Plate Company, i'ittsburK; Alfred .Marshall, of Marshall Bros. Co, Brooklyn; P. H. Lautmin, of the P. H. Laufmin Corapanv, Apollo. Pa.; C. B. ana J. W. Britton, of tbe Britton Rolllnc Mills Com psnr. o Cleveland, and T. M. Others repre sented by proxy were: Jennings Bros. 4 Co., of Pittsburg; Canonsbnrg Iron and Steel Com pany, of Pittsbure; Kirkpatnck fc Coof Pitts bare; and the Falcon Iron and IS'all Company, ofXUes.0. AU tbe mills mentioned, it is stated, are al ready In irorking order, and turning out plates at the rate of 60,000 net tons per annum. B. M. Sommers acted as Chairman, and the following were elected a committee on permanent organ ization: A. Marshall, F. U. Niedrinebam, B.M. Sommers, W. C Cronemeyer, ana J. il. ana C R. Britton, Chairman and Secretary, respect ively. After reading letters from mining companies in tbe Black Hills, S. Ashley's visit has had a good effect. He met tbe committee and laid before them tbe ad vantages of tbe new line. Tbe link was not really a parallel to any existing road, such as tbe Chicago and Erie, whose track the Wabash now nseseaatfrom Chicago. Tbe idea was to transfer business from one line to another. When he came away the English holders were much mure favorable to tbe plan, and on Sir. Ashley's invitation they consented to ap point a representative committee to make a trip over ths system and report to tbe foreign holders. There will be a meeting of directors next week, at which the matter will be dis cussed. Mr. Ashley is hopeful that tbe new line will be under construction within a short time. The estimated cost is less than $3,000,000, and the money is within easy reach.
