In the laM; act, it flowed down and almost slumped. It became talky and dragged out Incident after Incident until one almost screnmed for the curtain te end the nuspensc. It has n bright little story worked out brightly and skillfully at first. And It Is well staged and exceedingly well acted. t the third net's detours land the machine in the mud, and after that It's net only n question of hew c arc te get home but of whether we are certe get home at all. The theme of the story Is the selfish--.. r.t thn nvr.rnsn veunc eirl who marries a devoted young man, but who has no Idea whatever of submerging her own whims and spoiled fancies in the rieusncss of facing tbe problems of the world together. Her dcslre for an au tomobile which they can't afford is taken as representative of hr hellish ns. She meets a "shyster" lawyer tWie advises dlvorce and who plans te Vframe" her husband and her dearest girl friend in a compromising position e that she can enter suit and se force him te jield te her wishes and get her the car. But tbe husband's mere sophisticated chum sees through the little plot, carries out a counter "frame-up" with the wife and himself as the victims and by this means shows her her own sclfishnc&s and the petti ness of it. In book form the play should be a delight It is full of brisk epigrams and sparkling witticisms nnd there is a let of shrewd philosophy hidden under its froth. The trouble seems te be that the authors bring out this philosophy tee seriously and tee much at length In the final act, instead of permitting their audience te sense it through the com edy. Alan Brooks, who collaborated with A. Washington Pczct In writing the piece, plajs the part of "the danger eui man," the husband's chum. lie is excellent in the role as is II. Wag staff Tewnscnd as the husband. Hal Crn.ne is delightful in his interpreta tion of the brainless nnd effeminate little former suitor of thn wife, aud Marie Majerenl handles the role of the "shvstcr" lawjer skillfully. Bettv Linley made a charming and petulant spoiled young woman, and Catherine Cnzzens, Roxanne Lansimr. Jehn fl. King and Albert Reed did miner roles cHectivcly. True, Marget Santerre is a erv superior type of cave girl. Her old fester-father, the professor, took her Inte the weeds te test his theory that man can live well among primitive sur roundings. And there she met a Wall 6trcet magnate's son, who refused te make the marriage arranged for him, but who quicklv arranged n marriage of his own with Marget. The favorites of the Orpheum Plavers scored again in this comedy. Rutli Robinson was a delightful Marget and Dwight Meade met with everybody's approval as he wooed and wen 1 er. "The Idle Class" could have been stretched te six reels, but it Is ideal ns it Is. Charlie plays a dual role and docs It wonderfully, ndna Pur Pur viance is even mero attractive than usual. A comic golf i;ame and the idea of a man In a suit of armor which locks ever his face, trying te drink a cocktail, and finally having te hnve n can-opener te pr his head Ies, are the high points. They failed te obtain the reiults they evidently went after when thev transferred "Wedding Bells" from stage te Hereen. As it stands, this picture is Constance Talmadge's poor est effort In some time. If it wcre net for some charming settings at Palm Beach and the tdever farce-making of Harrison Ferd, and the pcrseual attraction of this young lending lady, "Wedding Bells" would be featureless. The plot has its funny moments, but they are due te the Individual efforts of the cast, uet te the story itself. And yet the Idea ceufd be made Inte an excellent fnrcc. Perhaps It is the director's fault. "Wedding Bells" concerns a ro mantic marriage at Palm Beach, which ends speedily in a quarrel oter bobbed hnlr en the part of the bride. She gets n divorce and the scene shifts te New Yerk, where the young man Is about te be married again, (hit time te a society bud.
