He cbee for his the me " Cltl Mnsblp." He started out by showing the necessity and importance of a special prona prena prona teon ter citizenship ; for all the leading ques tions of tbe day need Intelligence te solve them. He quoted Wendell l'tiillip's pro phecy, "that tbe question of tbe rich and peer would yet try our souls, as slavery never 'did," and commented thereon. He took up and discussed the conflict between labor and capital, the ignorance eftbe colored voters et the Seuth, which is a menace te our civil and political principles, and showed tht the public school is a key te all our fu ture political progress. Iu his opinion special attention should be paid In tbe schools te tbe study et political science. Mr. Llndemuth delivered his oration clearly and forcibly and was rewarded with hearty applause. Since leaving our city, after graduating in the class of Sl.heattended the Wesleyan university, at Jliddletewn, Connecticut, and graduated with high honors last week. In September he will outer Drew theological seminary. Sole and quartette, "Kcbees," by MIs nallle Docbteld, Miss Mary Sener, Jehn G. Warfel and Frank McCIaiu, ended Part 1. Tbe singers were Applauded se heartily that they had te appear and repeat the selec tion. Part II was opened with a concert waltz. Inoenoclnsta,"(Zanlchelll) by tbe orchestra, after which Miss llnlllu 1 loch told sang "SegnaL" (Sehlrn;. THE HONOIlAItY 0KATI0N. The honorary oration was next en the pro pre gramme. It was assigued te Majer .. V. Kelnccnl and he took for his subject, "The Touch of Midas." Alter repeating the fable about everything being turned te geld which Midas touched, he enteretl into a discussion of his subject. He showed very forcibly the evil effects of wealth misdirected iu society In Inducing extravagance and In politics in placing men in high elllckl positions, solely because they bad a barrel. The nnjer next discussed the evil eHects of Ihec.ipltalUt net giving tbe laborer wages for his work. AH the bell punches in the world won't make a conductor honest, when a corporation com pels him te work eighteen hours a day, at starvation wages. He paid a glowing tri bute te Eckley II. Coxe and his geed wife, for what they hate done iu their neigh borhood. Iu his district you don't hear of strikes, and why? because thn weckmen tbeie are treated llkemen by Mr. C'exe and when there Is sickness and trouble In the miners' families the tlrst te etler consolation and te rellevedlstress is the wlie of this geed man. The touch of Midas has caused defal cations without number because women by extravagance live beyond their husband's Incomes, and they steal from their employers te keep up appearances. The boodle alder man of I'ew Yerk and Chicago were handled without gloves by tbe major, and he closed his address by referring te the effect of Midas U'Kin the greatest feneral the world ever saw. He went nte Wall street, was made the diiie of designing men, and his declining years ware i.iuuu ptuuiiu iu consequence, uie major's address was well received, and he was rewarded with thunders or applause. Jehn O. Wariel sang " True te tbe I.nst," and te an encore he sang My Little Weman." Ily special request Miss Adele A. Matz rendered " Our Sacred Songs," the piece assigned her as one of tbe graduates ut the morning session. The refrain of the songs was rendered by a quurlette behind ttie scenes. Miss Matz did even better than in the morning. nillTOBV Or THE AMJ.MNl. Miss Badle E. Flemlug, ene of the teachers in the Lemen street building, was assigned tbe history of tbe alumni. She beganherad dress by saying that ene of the local papers had said some time age that tbe high school was a sham, but she asked tbe 700 graduates of tbe high school net te boycott that paper, for the editer labored under a mistake. She then reviewed the history of the alum ni Blnce 1S54, and showed that its graduates have earned distinction in ail the learned professions. Te the gradu ates who drltted iute journalism and who new are reporters en tbe daily papers she would say "enjoy life while you are here for there is no hereafter for reporters." She next teek up the lady graduates and showed that many of them are teachers who work for glory and net ler the salary they received. These eftbe graduate, eight iu number, who were wedded during the year shu congratula ted heartily and te these who have been gathered te their fathers. Bhe paid adeserved trieute. The audience all joined In singing "Auld Lang Syne, " alter which Kev. J. IV. T. Gray pronounced tbe benediction and the large audience was dismissed. It was the most successful reunion yet held by the alumni and the oredltfertbe success Is due te the officers.
