"Yvonne ' is essentially a Freueh play of the ometloual erder, and has been com pared te "Federa" by Rhea herself. The lirst two acts of "Yvonne" are laid in Paris. The next is iu New Orleans, and the last two are again in the gay fashion eapital of Europe. "Yvonne" is the slster of the "Countess Oraugelieu." A liaison existing between a "Fernand de Lauriae" and the "Countess" culminates In the death of the latter at the hands of "Count Oraugelieu," who fires upon him as he flees from the heuse. The "Countess" Is a wicked woman with a bed, dishonest heart, and she accuses her slster, the plain and menial "Yvenne," of having surreptiti eusly entertained de Lauriae in the house of ber hnaband. The lnnoceut "Yvenne" bears tbe disgraoe te save ber proud and haodsemo sister's name, and, under the protection of a venorable Amoriean gentle man, a retired pbysieian, Dr. Ferlin, Hees te New Orleans, liore she finds a pleas nut reiuge tfrem a venom of Parisian seandal, and has almost forgotten her sad harrowing past, when a yeuug French nobleman "Marquis Raeul de Reinfert," travelling in Ameriea, falls HI of yellow fever, and under the oare of her protector, Dr. Ferlin, reoevors, being nur sod through his convalescence by " Yvonne." lie loves her and broaebos marrlage, but she refuses te make an alliance ou account of her past history. He urges his suit with all tbe mere vigor. On bis voluntary declaration never te examine into the past, "Yvenne" yields. At this stage of tbe play the inter. est iuereases considerably. The fourth act opens with a bal masque given by the " Countess Orangelieu " in Paris, The "Marauis Reinfert " is among the guests : se also are " Yvonne " and the Amerlean pbysieian.
