EoweiulNTKLtroBNCBn : la this woek s lUO Of the WKKKLY iNTELUOBNCEn, I noticed mther wvore arraignment or tbe aulre In Renerul, and of the 'squlies of thlii county In partleular, and being ene of thoe whose day of ujefulnetw you seem te think la past. I feci In JuBtloe te this Hiueh abused fraternlty te say seme- thin In reply. .,.., , , In the artlele te irhleh I allutle, and also In ether arttelcs whleh have appeared In your paper heretofore, you charce en the magistrates as a body, misdeeds and, I might say, crimes, of a half dezen or less blacklegs of Columbia and Lanoaster elty who are a disgrace te tbe names and offleo they held. , Though seme ethers may have blunder ed occasionally, yet all the misdemeanors noted In the papers as being doue wilfully and habitually by the 'squires and censta bles of this county can be, and have been, laid at the doers of a half dezen men, and It la unjust, urfalr, and unreasonable te eharge it te the magistrates of this oeunty as a rule, when It is a well known faet thnt It U confined te sueh a small rain erity of thorn ; and we will yonture te say there Is no ethor elass or profession that can show sueh a prcponderanoo of upright, just and honer.ibla men evor the blaek sheep of the fleck as tbe 'tquirca et this oeunty. We have but two judges In this county, and ene of them at least has been charged repeatedly in your paper with many efll clal acts unbecoming the ermine, and qulte as grave In their way as have been eharged te the worst of our floek, yet I de net mlud of your suggesting the aboli tion of the office of judge. Many lawyers and a district atterney have been charged with everything dishonorable and disrepu table, yet we have heard of no meve te de away with the ene or muzzle forever the ethor. The ministers of this land have efteu disgraced the oleth, but as jet we have seen no liw passe'l te shut up the churches. There are black sheep lu every fleck, and Judas was ene of the twelve oheson by Ged, but the ethor eleven were net charged with his treachery. Why then the 'squire ? Yeu say they work for the man that hires them ; though it leeks se en acoeuut of the majority of vordlets for the plain tiff, this Is a mistaken impression. If a man comes te me te sue another, and niter he states bis oase plainly, I And he has no easel tell him se, and he drops it, but if I Bceblscaae is apparently just aud he brings suit is it any wender that the chances are largely in his favor ? Frem my own experience, and also that of several of my conferees with whom I have talked, fully ene fourth of these who ceme tc us te iuvoke the power of the law we dissuade from their purpese j new if we should institute suit, at the request of all undoubtedly most the cases weutd ba against the plaintiffs. Again, the majority of actions brought are te enferce the collection of debts admitted ly due, and te settle book accounts when the indebted ness is net donied in tete, but only as te particulars ; thesa eises are all noeossarily for plaintiff. As te criminal eases, I think but few will beliove the in sinuatien that the magistrates of this county are sueh grasping Shylocks as te commit an innocent man te jail, or worse, the horrors of Bummers' hall, for the paltry sum of two or threo dollars ; tueupJ' as I have said thore are a few wbtivtr their as for magistrates' liability infallibility ; judgments, wu don't cfejs wrong when but that we are b de net admit ; juries roverse ' bear tne out that and facta vi one man, usually choseu tbe judgmiligence and ability, nod fairly ferhisinted in law and ability te sift well vi, is about as likely te be right as ovidef twdve mtin soleoted indiocrlmlnatu indiecrlmlnatu indiocrlmlnatu thatrem all grades of intelligence, aud ly tlittle aptness and no oxperiouoj iu dealiug with lawyers and witnesses. Tbe majority of men would trust te the 'squire all the time, as is evidenced by the small per cent, of appeals te the number of easos we uoeido. Ibis article is growing tee long new, or I would touch en the matter of intcrmidlate courts aud may at seme future time, and in conclusion will only say, let the poeplo and the politicians see te it that the Toe grabbing, heaitless men, who new bring stiarne te our county, are returned te private life ; let the proper authorities punish te the uttermost all wilful wrongs perpetrated in the name of law : aud it any party strain dare nominate te this ollice men proven unworthy let all the papers regardless of politics make war te tbe knife en sueh unworthy aspirauts, who seek the ofllce for the unlawful emolu ments that may be wrung from it and oxercise Its rights te the sharae of justiee, oppression of the innocent, aud dlaerace of our uame and oeunty. If you will kindly give thi.su place In your valuable paper you will greatly obligealargo number of 'squlies who de net care te rest mutely under the imputa tions east en their ability aud fidelity.
