Bagisstlens as te Bathing Geatame Styles of tbe Season A Palace at Naa pert Its Floe Apartments. This is what; ft correspondent of tbe Pittsburgh Pett saw at Leng Branch : A hundred or mere men and women, clad as for the ring, were postured en tbe beach, as truly for exhibition as though they had net been nonchalantly chatting, and as manv mere were frolicking in the H water, turning summersaults into the incoming breakers, swimming and floating, playing tricks en one another and ic Tarieus ways making the mcst remark able entertainmnet ever given without money and without price. But in this, as in most sports, the best efforts of amateurs are eclipsed by pro fessional achievements. Twe actresses made their appearance in garb that the most daring of ether women could net even contemplate without expressing Fcern or was some of it in envy. Mary Proseott came first, wearing two pairs of stockings one the exact color of her bared arms, and ever these some red socks, be that the impression given at a glance was that her limbs were bare. Then she in turn was outdone by Etel ka Berry, in no skirts at all, but encased Bkin-tight in a bodice, trunks and hose of knitted stuft. She lay for an hour flat en the saud, and long be fore the end of that time was the focus of hundreds of staring nyes. Although ad miration might have been detected in some of this gazing, the comments were wholly unfavorable. Tbe women were especially severe in their remarks, and se loud that Berry could net have failed te hear some of the condemnation. " I declare," exclaimed a voice just back of me. " I am ashamed te leek at her. I don't think she ought te be allowed here." I turned te see the speaker, and was as tounded, for she was a girl attired quite as sparingly, except that a skirt barely covered her hips. She was the centre of a group cf fellows, palpably the object of their curious visual attention, and net in the least disturbed by her position or con dition. And she was the highly respecta ble and accomplished daughter of a Phil adelphia " first family." Thus you will understand that, however improper Berry may have been, this critic was net te be censured. " Whatever is (in the circles of fashion) is right." A PAL..VHAI. KKSIDKNUB. Mr. Rebert Geelet'a Mew Heuse at Newport. Placed en a charming site, with an ex tensive lawn reaching down te the ocean, the beauty of the house and its surround ings attract immediate attention. Every thing about the property is done en a grand scale. Te reach the house one has te pass through a bread carriage-way which skirts the lawn en tbe northern side and comes past tbe house te the ether end of the estate. By this way the full beauty of the surroundings can be appreciated. The general style of the mansion is the Queen Anne, though modifications te give freedom and picturesqueness te the whole have been made throughout. High above the bread entrance, between the two massive towers which project from the front of the edifice, have been placed large bronze scrolls, set in huge rectangles et mesaiu work, for the inscription et the name and date of erection of the build iug. These deviees in front and rear form the only variation from the uniform un finished brick of the lower aud the stained shingles et the second story. Through a massive oak deer, plenti fully studded with brass nails in fanciful patterns, admssien is gained from the long piazza between the towers te the still longer hall, which also extends through te tbe rear of the edifice and is two stories in height. Iu all its design and joiner work it shows admirable skill and finish in 1'etail and evokes enthusiastic praise Irem all beholders. The richly tinted oak panelling extends te the ceiling, where it meets carved cerni ces and roughly hewn oak beams v?hich support tbe ceiling, and gaius additional richness of color from the stained glass windows iu the f i eat and tear of both stories. Above the immense fireplace, which claims attention in the centre of the right wall, are placed six elegantly carved panels which reach te the ceiling. These were expressly imported for the purpose. A balcony runs across the freut and hall of the two sides en a level with the second fleer, the colonnade and railing support ing it beinc skilfully carved and turned. A recess between tbe fireplaue aud the front of the building formed by the tower contains the bread staircase winding te the balcony landing above. Through a large window can be seen the lawn and the sea in the rear. Felding doers admit the visitor te the dining hall, which also has large windows overlooking the Atlantic. The apartment is furnished from fleer te ceiling with mahogany and cherry panels beautifully carved. This room, in common with all the ether prin cipal apartments, contains an elegant fire place with carved mantel and plate glass mirror. A magnificeut sideboard of ma hogany occupies nearly the entire east side. The casements and doers are of mahogany and the fleer is of ash. In succession, te the east of the dining hall, are the butler's room, patry, kitchen and laundry. Acress a narrow oak furnished hall is the music room, finished in redwood with high wainscoting and fresceed panels, and numerous shelves above tbe fireplace and te one side of the same. Three large windows permit a bread view of the front lawn and the cliffs te the eastward. On the left a deer opens into a billiard room, the cherry wainscot of which is as high as the doers, leaving a large border for frescoes. The windows command a view of the lawn also. Diagonally across the large ball, tbe uniform oak hue of which contrasts ad mirably with the weed colors in tbe ad joining apartments, an entrance is obtained through folding doers into the drawing room. The woodwork of the apartments ivory white, and the walls aie covered with an embossed papiet mache frieze. A mirror framed in brass filagree work rests upon whie velvet above an elegantly tiled fireplace. Admirable weed carvings are the most striking features of the room, which commands a view of tbe cliffs te the westward and the restless sur face of tbe ocean. A deer from the drawing room opens into the library, a large apartment, the woodwork of which is painted in a terra cotta shade. Large windows command a view of both front and rear lawns. Access is had te the large veranda, which begins here and runs around the west and south sides as far as the butler's room. Bread steps connect the veranda with the terrace and the ter race with the lawn. Over tbe library is a room with tinted walls and ivory-white weed, with a bay window in the southeast corner and a large window overlooking the carriage-way te the gates. A bath room and cedar clothes press are connected with this and another with tbe bedroom adjoining, ever the drawing room, The joiner work and finish in these and the apartments for guests are of the finest ; these two rooms are fur nished with electric bell-calls. The ether bedrooms are finished in pine, either painted or varnished, the floors being of hard pine. In the eastern wing are also three balk rensas, with fiw anrwanta. wan lissa il linn atwnr tha I 1 1 in I I IB !
