Twenty Bulldlnss liurned and Twe Human Lives Lest -Scenes el Panic at Mid might A Youeg Weman's Brave Act Raltimeie Dispatch te the Times. The city of Wcsminster, Carrell county, SlarylaDd, thirty-eight miles from Balti more, was the scene of a terrible confla gration last night, which "at one. time threatened the destruction of all the prop erty in the place. Twenty buildings were burned te the ground, including a Luther an church, the fiuest edifice in the city. It is generally believed that the fire was the work of an incendiary. Early yester day morning an attempt was made te set the Menteur hettl en-ltre. A pile of kind ling weed and paper was found burning under the rear stairway, and but for the timely diFcevery would, by setting fire te the stairway, have cut off one of therin cipal means of egress and endangered many lives, as the house was full of guests at the time. Allan Loep and Jeanna r Green., both colored, were ui rested en sus picien, and the first fire extinguished with but trifling less. Near midnight fire broke out again in H. Thompson's livery stable and spread with great rapidity. Rebeit Thompseu and Aaren Shaefer, who were asleep in the hay-left, perished in the llarne? and only a few blackened pieces of their bodies were scraped up from the ruins te day. The stable being situated en the principal business street stoics and residences one after another caught the blaze and in half an hour an outire block of buildings were inflames. There wcie a couple of small chemical engines in the place, but they wcie of little use in such a conflagration, and the only water obtainable was from pumps and wells and a small pond en the etttskiits of the town. Scenes et Funic. The citizens became fairly panic stiick- en. Women in their night clothes, with children in thir aims, rushed Irautieally out of theiV houses, and persons residing squares away from the burning districts threw their furniture out into the streets. Se rapidly did the fire spread that few por.sens whose houses were destroyed wete able te s.ive much of their furniture or clothing, and many of the'merchatits lest their entire stock of goods. About 1 o'clock this morning the town officials telegraphed te Baltimore ler aid and Chief Fire Marshall ITeiskell, of this city, ordered two of the regular lire eitglne companies, with the engine and hook and ladders, and two of the comity chemit-al engine; te the scene. They woie taken en a special train ever the Western Maty land raihead, but the ti.iin was somewhat delayed in starting and the engines arrived tee late te be of any .set vice, the lite hav ing tcaehed the limits of the town and speut its fury when there was no meto mateiial te feed it. It was kept ftem .'pleading in ether directions by the tear ing down efseveial frame buildings and a lurieus rahisteim which began about two o'clock this 11101 ning and lasted several hours. A I.rave Yeung Weman. Twe little children were rescued from one of the burning dwellings by a young woman-, The reef of tlte house was en lire and the mother, and invalid, was alone in the house with her little ones. She fainted from fright and was berne out in safety. Her children for the time beinir were ler gotten, ' until a neighbor remembering them hastened up staits and gieped bet way about in the blind-ntc smeke until .she found the childicn, who were nearly suf fecated, and escaped with them. In a shett time afterward the building was burned te the greuud. The total less en buildings is estimated at $150,000 ; about one half coveted by insiuauce. The less en goods in stores, clothing and lurniture iu dwellings is lenghly placed at $GO,000. Several peer families are rendeied homeless, rear Men Arrested. The proprietor of the livery-stable has made a statement te the state's attorney that about 10 o'clock last night four men, at times employed about the stable, asked him for a lantern. He refused their lequest but late.-saw them playing catds by the light of a lantern iu the back part of the stable. A short time afterwaids he heard cries of fire and saw the rear of the build ing iu flames. Rebert Goodwin, Jehn Clark, Hansen Dersey and Charles War field, the men who were in the stable, have been arrested, pending the coronet's inquest. Thirty horses and two cows that were in the stable were burned te death. Several of the animals, with their manes and tails en fire, escaped from the stable and dashed madly through the crowd en the street, injuting three or four persons. The principal stores ami dwelling houses binned ate these of Jacob Thompson, livery stable ; Btxtcr & Lsuef, beet and shoe dealers ; Ousel man & Marris, form ttne dealers ; Mary Leister, dwelling house ; F.
