f(V LAKCASTEB fiAILY INTELi,i(4EKCEB, FRIDAY, DECEMBER 1. 1882. A HUSBAND'S EEVENGE. HK SHOOTS MIS WIITJS'S PAKAVOUR. Tlie Way of tbe World A rrall tt'cu-aa ml a Desperate aian. St Louis Dispatch lo the Woild. A Fcandal lias bccu brought to light by a shooting affmy which occurred on Tues day uigbt in front of a house on Siulctou Htieet. The shooter was an injured hus band. The target was his wife's be trayer, who for three hours had been closeted with her iu the honee, the wronged husband in tho meanwhile being on the outside with a detective awaiting their appearance. When they appeared the husband fired and the bullet bit hta wife's companion in tho arm and he fell to tho ground. The husband then pointed tho revolver at tho prostrate man's breast, but beforo ho could fire another shot tho detective had disarmod him. Then the husband left his wife with her companion and with tho detective jumped into a buggy ai.d drovo rapidly away.'and hho supportrd tho injured man, helped him arise, and then hailing a carriage, accompanied him to Jus home. The actors in this affair are Mr. and Mrs. Kush Tevis, Mr. Frank Iglehart aud a piivr.lc detective. Mrs. Tcvis is a lady well Jaiown in St. Louis society. She is a nieeo of General Sherman, tho commander-in-chief of tho army, and of the lato Su premo Court Judgo Samuel F. Rober. Jlcr father, Colonel Reese,- is now iu the regular army, but is at present in St. Louis. Tho lady is quito young, with an exceedingly attractive aud intelligent face. She does not look to be more than twenty vcai sold, and she has been the centre of a very blight circle in St. Louis forsoveial years. About four years ago nho was mar i;d to Mr. Rush Tevis, a sou of John C. Tcvis, au old and respected cilizuu of St Lou's, and at present, an einplo.we iu the wholesale dry goods house of Crow, Ilar dino & Co. Every one who knew them supposed that their homo on Leonard street was a very happy one. Mrs. Tevis seemed to bo thoroughly contented aud altogether wrapped up in hor baby, now a bright littlo girl of threo years. For sonic time past, however, thero has boen a cool iicss between herself and hor husband. Mis. Tevis confided to a friend last week that hor husband had been very much an noyed by an anonymous letter that ho had received a couple of days beforo and that ho had been to sco a private detective about tho mater. Sho seemed to bo very much troubled about it. Tevis, however, appeared to bo satisfied and tho matter was dropped. Mrs. Tcvis mot Iglchait at tho house on Singleton street, aun whilo ho ucsdod her help after tho assault she was as brave as a lionet-. Sho held him up and did all that lay in her power or wit to soothe his agony. Rut once in her carriage she gave way to her grief, and after Iglehart had been taken to his homo sho went to her father. Ho could not at first realize what it was tho sobbing woman was try ing to tell him, aud when he did under stand it aud felt that his daughter was testifying against herself, his first impulse was (ur vengeance, but ho soon realized that there was no ono upon whom ven granco could bo taken. Thero was nothing for the lady aud thoso who loved her to do but to lcmain silcui. Sho had an interview with her husband. Tho two families mot and discussed tho whole situation as cooly as such a matter could bo discussed by tho principles. It was agreed that tho husband aud wife must separate, and legal steps looking towards that event will bo begun at onco. Judgo Madill has been retained to lcprc seut Mis. Tevis, and it is said that a peti tion for divorco will bo filed by the hus band and not contested by tho wife. Col. ll-H'so aud his daughter will leave the city iu a d.ty or two. 15a y City, Midi., Feb.', lh.,1.
