e-s. LANCASTEB DAILY INTjJ.IGNCBv TUESDAY NOVEMBEE 28.182. TOBACCO. STATE Of THIS LOCAL MABIIET. MortmtiU Xm '80 TIM New Crop SU11 Uo lh rolM-iSOHM iMNt SftlCS t Good Mew. The sale of old tobacco for tho last week will foot op something over 600 caf.es oi the 80 crop, which is now being rapidly reduced in this county. There is not many Urge lots of it now held, but several mall packings. At the rate it has been going during the last few weeks, in a very snort time it will be out of this market. The greater part of that lately-"! J lias been taken by manufactur ers wboe t-tckH am generally light, and who havo bem buying only from hand to ntouiii 10 L-L-op things moving ; and though th- r ba never been a crop mora cried down by the bears of the trade than the '80, it is giving perfect satisfaction when it can be bought at fair prices. '81 has to yet make its reputation among the manufacturers generally. So far little of it has been sold outside of jobbers. Of its yielding qualities there is little doubt ; its prioo tho future must de velop. The ruination of the seed leaf trade by Sussatra does not seem to effect this mar ket so terribly as tho Journal would like to impress its readers or buyers of the new crop would hardly be so anxious to secure it at the prices now being paid. Wrappers are certainly selling high when we find 20 to 24 cents paid through for crops, and 22 cents for 20-inch up, with 11 cents for 20 inch down. Theso figures are high ; if not sounding as high as last year they will be fully as much when we come to' get at the price through. Of the merits of this crop it is claimed it is a very well cured one, the wrappers aro free from any blemish, no white veiu and the color is good. One thing is very certain, the amount of fino wrapper in it will be email ; a large portion of the best part of tho crop in many sections was badly punished by bail and wind storms. This being the oase buyers are anxious to secure their share of these fine long goods. Jacob Shirk has boon buying largely iu the lower end of the county. Somo 300 acres have been taken by him durine the last two weeks at prices from 20 to 25 for long wrappers and from 10 to 1G for short. To Henry .Lee he paid 23, 10, 4 ; Frank Pyle 23, 10, C, 4 ; Ed. Woodward, 21, 12, 6. 3 ; Wm. Shoemaker, 21, 10, 0, 5 ; Jos. Pyle & Bros. 20, 15, 10, 3. Altschu is buying in Manor largely at prices from 1G to 23 through, and Sterner has paid corresponding figures in the Lam peters. All of these, with Rosen walds and some few other buyers, aro looking up what they eay aro " gilt edged crops." The cold weather of the last few days has been rather bad for buyers, who can tell very littlo about crops in the sheds,' and a very fow growers havo taken any thing down. Stripping has not fairly begun. The next damp spell will givo new life to it. Farmers complain of considerable stem rot among their finest crops and say tho proportion of seconds and fillers will be large. Taking this with the hail cut and very late crops will mako a large quantity of low grades, which will in all probability be left Ho for some time. Dklxvan, WiP., Sep. '!!, 1878.
