Tobacco Journal . The market was again depressed, and transactions were very small. It would be a waste of words once more to alludo at leagthtotho cause of this unfortunate sfctto of affairs. Sumatra tobacco has brought it about, and will oontinue it until it is kept out of the market by a high tariff. Holders of old stocks aro polling at al most any ilniro they can obtain. The present state of the market is the most demoralized wo have seen since 1874. The few buyers of new that appear ask for State, Wisconsin and Connecticut. For Pennsylvania they cannot even be induced to make offers. Let us hope against hope that a change will soon take place. The sales of the week wero about 500 oases of '80 Pennsylvania, at from 8 to 13 cents ; about COO cases of '81 Ohio, at 4 to C cents, and soma 500 cases of '81 Con necticut at 12 cents for seconds and 23 to 512 cents for wraprors. Sumatra Notwithstanding tne near ap proach of the time when the extra duty of 10 per cent, will be taken off, the market is exceedingly lively. Orders from the country are comiBg in very extensively, and prices rango fiom $1 to 81.40. The receipts aro keeping pace with the modcr ato demand only, most of the importers delaying tbeir shipments until after Janu ary next, when it is expected that fiom threo to four thousand bales will airivc in this market. Havana Market moderately active. Sales, mostly now, number about 500 bales. Prices firm. Can' Report. Sales of seed leaf tobacco reported by J. S. Cans' Sou & Co., tobacco brokers, No. 131 Water street, Now York, for the wcok ending November 13, 1882 : 480 cases 1881 New England, 1233c; 50 cases 1880 Now England, p. t. ; 330 cases 1880 Pennsylvania, p. t. ; 500 cases 1881 Ohio, 33(5,0 lo.; 150 cases sundries 318c. Total. 1,030 eases. the vans crop. Knlmntes on the Season's Yield From All Partt of the country. The November corn report of the de partment of agriculture says that deferred frosts have made the growing period of fully averago length. Condition, July 1, averaged 8-j ; it was 83 in August, the Fame in September and 81 in October. Last year condition foil from 00 in July to GO in October, presaging a loss of 450,000, 000 bushels, which was fully realized. The department has thrco tests of quantity produced, viz. : Comparative condition in October, yield per acre returned in No vember and in December total product as compared with total of previous year. In October the highest indication of aggre gate was 1,080,000,000 bushols, and it was stated that " later returns of product may slightly reduce but cannot materially in crease the result." The present returns of yield mako a gen oral average close to 25 bushels per acre, which is undsr a medium yield, confirming the prediction of September 1, that the " heavy production of 18T9 and 1880 can not bo approached under the most favor able circumstances," which was 28 1-10 bushols in tho consus year, while tho aver age yield ol ton years to 1880 was nearly 32 ; Minnesota, 21 ; Iowa, 18G ; Missouri, 184 ; Kansas, 151 ; Nebaska, SI. The quality of the crop is superior throughout the South. It falls below the standard, 100, in only eighteen states and tcrritoiics ouly one point below in Mich igan, two in Ohio, threo in Nevada, five in Indians, Vermont and Utah, six in New Jersey, eight in Colorada, nine in New York, ten in Rhode Island and New Mex ico, fifteen ju New Hampshire and Iowa, sixteen in Dakota, eighteen in Minnesota and twonty-two iu Wisconsin. Some cor respondents deem it too early for accurato estimate and think tho outcome will bo better determined by tho December return of product. In former years the Decembor roturn of product has been tho lowest. It is not probable that tho crop exceeds the abDve figures. "Troubles olten come Irom whence we least expect Uiom." Oak Hall and Bi Our exhibit in the Trades Procession of the Bi-Centennial Celebration on October 25 th will illustrate the great stock of men's and boys' clothing now ready in Oak Hall. Our preparations for the trade of this Au tumn and Winter already reach One Million Dollars. Our stock is in all respects the best we have ever offered, and we firmly believe has never been equaled in volume by any retail clodiing house in America. Do not fail to visit Oak Hall. Look at the Clothing and Piece Goods, go through the workrooms and see how the vast place goes on. We have a hearty wel come for all, whether buyers or visitors. The tens of thousands of friends we have made in the country about Philadelphia during the last twenty-two years are, we are sure, more firmly our friends than ever be fore. We have gained their confidence by giving them the best dollar's worth of clothing to be had anywhere, and we offer a new pledge of fidelity in our low prices and elegant Autumn stock of this year's sales.
