JLAN CASTER IDADLY rNTELLieENTCEK SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 1882.1 4 voted in the interest of public economy and political reform." On motion of Dr. J. M. Dnnlap a com mittee of five was appointed by the chair to prepare an address to the voters of the Northern district The chair appointed the following: Abraham Kline, Manbeim ; CoL W. M. McClure, Columbia; Isaac K. Haber, Norwood ; Christ Smith. Ephrata ; Christ H. Nissley, Florin, East Donegal. Capt Briclcer and Abr. Kline made ringing speeches in denunciation of ma chine methols and machine men, and gave the most encouraging assurances that if the Independents are true to their princi- 8 lea and to themselves a victory in the 'ortbern district will reward their efforts and the shame under which Pennsylvania lies through her misrepresentation by Cameron in the United States Senate will be washed away. Mr. Graybill made a brief speech in sup port of honest government and the con vention adjourned with cheers. The convention, though not large, was composed of a better class of men than lias been seen in any Republican conven tion in this county for years. Tliey were almost exclusively sturdy farmers, mer chants and business mon, who have cut loose from tho machine organization with a determination to crush it. There was not a lawyer nor a professional politician I in their ranks, and scarcely a man wnoso name has ever prominently been men tioned in connection with office. Mr. EDgroffa Funeral.
