How Christine Nilsson Discovered a Sea of Song In Sweden. A correspondent of tbo Now York World writing from London says : Hearing from from some of tho musical men hero that Mmo. Christine Nilsson was to take with her to tho United States that rara atitj a new tonor, my curiosity was, as you may imagino, toniewbat aroused. For at the present time it certainly seems as though there were somewhat of a dearth of men possessed of this particular kind of voioo, and tho nows that a fro6h one has been discovorod, aud one, too, that Mme. Nils son was willing to sing with, I made somoiuquirics to find out something about the roan. Mr. Theodore Blorkston is a Swede, said to bo good-looking, with a clear, bell-Iiko and exceedingly sweet voice. So far I got without much diffi culty, but beyond this I could not go. No one seemed to know very much about him. By the greatest good luck in the world I was introduced the other night to a French journalist, aud tho conversation turning upom rousio, I mentioned Blorkston's name. Imagine my delight at finding that he knew all about him, having known him when ho was studying in Paris. As half the interest of the story lay in the way in which it was told, I will try and givo it to you as nearly as I can in his own words. " We were at Stockholm towards the end of the month of September, 1881. Tho capital of Sweden celebrated by splendid fetes the marriage of tho hereditary prince with the charming Princess Victoria, of Baden, and among the eminent personages assembled to make these fetes illustrious and by their presence to give them bril liaucy might bo recognized in tho rank the Swedish nightingale, Mme. Christine Nilsson. That celebrated cantratrice was almost as cordially greeted as was the new princess, and the crowd never ceased to gather in front of tho hotel where she stopped in the hopo of catching a glimpse of her. Among the assiduous individuals who formed tho crowd one young man was conspicuous for his assiduity. He was there incessantly and was always one of the first to lead tho frantic hurrahs with which the crowd saluted the cantatrice whenever she appeared in sight. He might have been about twenty-one and he had a singulaaly distinguished face. Eyes filled with the reverie of the sons of the north mingled with the fire of the sons ot south. Wherever the groat cantatrice went she always became conscious of her young worshipper until the attention be came almost a fatigue to hor. One even ing the city of Stockholm gave her a ser enade, and sho listened to the beautiful national airs which she bad so often sung with a heart full of admiration and yet of paiu. Ono voice particularly attracted her attention at least, that of a tenor whoso silvcty tones filled the air with music. SImo. Nilssohn sent for this tonor, and voila ! tho admirer himself. "He seized the opportunity and de clared his passionfor music ! In his tender years he had vowed in the name of Christine Nilsson to dovoto himself to this divine art until he might do some thing which would bo pleasing to her be fipre whom he stood. Like one of the tragic heroes of the great poot of France, Victor Hugo, he was but a " ' Humble worm ol tho earth amourcd of a star.' " The diva invited him to sing a num ber of morccaux, and he was conscious with delight that his voice and his man ner pleased her. Behold the interview, to him most memorable, terminated, and be finds himself under tho patronage of his celebrated compatriot. She proved her sincerity by procuring for him an invita tion to a grand fete at the royal court, where he had the distinguished honor to sing with her. Bhe-was-pleased and the court applauded,1 while to him it was but happiness complete !, " M. Theodore Blorkston was born in Stockholm, in 1859. His father, formerly a naval officer, is now governor of the Royal Castle of Stockholm. Being in tended to grace tho navy his education was very complete, bat his tasto for music was so strong that while-- preparing; for his baccalaureate he took lessons of the cele brated Swedish professor, M. Berg, the first maestro' -of Jenny Lind. Leaving Stockholm he became in Paris' a pupil of M. Delle Sedle, to whom Mme. Nilsson had recommended him, and in a short time was recognized as one of tho most promising tenors and musicians in that ad mirable school."
