UOIVS IS MABTIC. 1 liat Interests tbe People of Mt. H ebe. Surprises are becoming quite common, and the way some people are victimized is nearly ludicrous. The latest victim in our village is Miss Emma Stevenson. Her friends, te the number of thirty, assembled at a neighboring house, and from there proceeded te the residence of the young lady, in order te celebrate her sixteenth birthday anniversary. Te say that the young lady was surprised would but feebly express what was pic tured en her countenance. After consid erable time had passed in sociable cenver satien and in performing sundry gamcs, ail wereinvited te surround a table, whicn was filled with dainties that would tempt the appetite of a prince. It is net neces sary te say that justice was done by all te this operation, at least if a view would have been taken of the table after it was vacated. After all had satisfied the in ner mau, they again engaged in social games, until a very late hour, when all dispersed te their respective homes. Although the ir.di catiens for rain were very premising, the lieuhe was crowded, the net proceeds amounted te $22.75 ; sufficient money te purchase a dictionary for both Mount Nebo and Bridge Valley schools. All the participants acquitted themselves very creditably, and the entertainment has been pronounced by all present as the best that lias been held in Mt. Nebo for a num ber of years. A novel feature of the en tertainment was the presence of a ven trilequist, who entertained the audience with his wonderful art. O nicer nick Resigns. Andrew J.
