The Times in an edi torial article this morning, considers that Guitcau was induced te allow a east of his head te be taken by judicious flattery and says : " Nothing in criminal procedure has ever equalled the laxity of his trial. What should have been a grave investigation has become a sort of entertainment. Although a murderer and a cheat, Guitcau has produced the most farcical trial ever heard of. New that he has obtained notoriety as a crimi nal he is bent en showing his importance. Gen. Aneutchinc, governor general of Eastern Siberia, who lias just arrived here, has brought the news that a steamer of the North America polar expedition, which had been lest since 1877, has been discov ered, and that assistance has been rettdcr ed te the crew. Inquiries are being made concerning the name of the vessel, date of her discovery and ether particulars. Londen, Dec. 20. A telegram from St. Petersburg is published here which says it is believed in that city that the informa tion brought by the governor of Eastern Siberia of the discovery of a steamer in the Artie rcf. is te the Jeannctte. Farley, a jeung attd prominent firmer, residing near Gesh :ti, went last evening te the depot with his wile, who was te take the Middletown way ex press train te Hampton. On his return home, while crossing the track near Otter Hill, he was struck by the train his wife was waitintr for and instantly killed, the whole top of his head being cut oft". The train was stepped and the body of the unfertunate man was taken en beard and carried te Geshen. As Mrs. Farley was passing te the cars she saw the dead body of her husband lifted oil the train.
