COURT OF COMMON 1LEA.. lleftire Judge LiiingKten. The first case attached was that of .le.-epli Vanleer and Careline Vanleer, for fer incily Caiman, his wife, for the use of said wife, vs. Sidwcll T. Wilsen and Need ham Wilsen, exccuteis of Necdham Wil Wil eon, dcccasi d. This was an action te re cover wages fur services lendcicd the de ceased. According te the plaintiffs' testi mony Caieliuc Carman was employed as a domestic in the family of Ncedham Wil Wil eon (new deceased), of Little Britain township, when she was 17 years of age. As evidence that deceased acknowledged indebtedness te aud wanted make a piovisien for the plaintiff a paper was pieduccd which he left at the heuse of Mrs. Madigau, a relative of the plaintiff. It contained the following words : " I give fc these few lines te Careline Carman te show that I want her te have the sum of $1,-00 at my death. She lived with me a number of eais and get very little for it. I thought right te leave this little sum te be paid out of my home property," signed Ncedham Wilsen. After a long discussion by counsel the paper was admitted in cvi It was then shown that plaintiff had lived with Mr. Wilsen for le years, whcie she did housework, &c, for which she never icccivcd anything but her beard. The defense asked for a non suit, wliicli was refused. They then proceeded te show that Careline Carman had net done as much work as she claimed, as Mr. Wilsen had ether help ; she came and went when she pleased te the great in convenience of Mr. Wilsen and family ; in June, 1801, she had a settlement with Wilsen aud gave him a receipt in full te dale; fiein that time she did net de any work. The icccipt was objected te but was admitted. Before Judge Livingston. Jacob K. Geedman vs. the Pennsylvania lailread company. This is an actieu te iccevcr damages for injuries received by plaintiff en defendant's railroad. The evi dence showed that en the 5th of Novem ber, 1804, the plaintiff, who was a farmer then aud lesidcd near Salunga, started from the city te drive home. lie had ene heisc hitched te a 6pring wagon ; he drove out the Harrisburg pike te the Colcbreok lead, which cresses the Pennsylvania rail rail lead track at an angle ; as he approached the track, and when20er 30 yards away from it, he looked for a train ; he neither saw nor heard anythiug aud he drove en ; when en the track he was struck by a passenger en gine; his wagon was wrecked, he was thrown out, aud besides having his col cel lar bone aud two ribs broken he was ter ribly cut about the head and body and was laid up for some time, and since has net been able te carry en his old business of farmiug. It is claimed by the plnintiff that no whistle was blown by the engine and there was no customary signal up at this point. On trial. Sentenicd. Alice Garbsr, the young girl con victed last week of larceny, was brought in before Judge Livingston this morning aud she was sentenced te undergo an im prisonment of three months. This was the lowest sentence which could be passed upon her under the law, which does net allow prisoners te come out of jail before February 15. BURGLARY. Jehn flege' Stere Enlereiljanil Storert. The grocery store of Jehn Hegc, Ne. C10 Seuth Queen street, was broken into some time during last night and robbed. The burglars first made an attempt te get into the store by boring a hole in the sliut ler of a wiupw at the side of the heuse, but the bit struck the iron plate te which the belt is fastened. They then began bor ing another hole alongside of the first, but for some reason abandoned it. They then went te the rear of the house and bored a number of holes along the 'dge en au eutside cellar deer, which was fastened by a cress piece of weed. This they turned around, went in through the cellar aud up the cellar steps te the deer leading into the store, which was also fastened ; this they opened by i emeving the catch of the belt. A fter get ting into the store they broke open the money drawer, which contained about six dollars in small change and eue silver dol lar, together with a number of receipts. They carried off the money, together with a box of large apples, apiece of cheese and several ether articles. This morning the meucy drawer, with the receipts in it, was found near the middle of the let in the icar of the house. Although Mr. Hegc and wife sleep in the heuse they did net hear any noise during the night. It is believed the alarm of fire between two aud thiee o'clock scared off the burglars before they had completed their robbery. Suspicion rests upon two or three dis reputable parties, but no aricsts have been yet made. lreserve:I Fruits Stelen. Yesterday afternoon Dr. Jacob Leng, druggist, corner of West King and Maner btieets, discovered that some one had en tered his cellar and stolen a large number of jars and cans of preserved and pickled fruits. An entrance was effected through an outside cellar deer, which was opened probably by false keys. It is net known when the larceny was effected, as the family had no occasion te leek after the fruits until yesterday. Tlie Doctors. "Dr." Jacob Fritz, of Quarry ville, has "settled" his prosecution by Kahler Snyder ; the prosecutor has withdrawn his complaint against Dr. E. B. Hcrr, being convinced that he has net practiced for Fevcral years ; the case of Mrs. Kuchlne, of this city, a midwife, was continued ; Dr. Maitin II. Dillcr, of Salisbury, his friend Mr. Worst. District Attorney Davis and Prosecutor Snyder had some fetctct sidc-ioem conferences, from which Snyder emerged and informed the alderman that the suit was withdrawu, the doctor for costs. allot Near llenej brook. Washington, Nev. 29. The crowd about tbe court heuse te day was four times as large as en any previous day, and the great rush caused seme delay in open ing court. Guiteau was called te the wit ness stand, his appearance testifying te the sincerity of his remark that he was " net feeling well at all." Mr. Scevillo asked him te give some incident from his earliest recollections of his mother. Gui teau pleaded illness and seemed unwilling te testify- IIe had a geed deal te say and wanted te be in a geed talking condition te meet the prosecution's cress examina tion. IIe was willing te answer Scevillo's question if the prosecution would post pest post peno the cress examination te some ether day. Cel. Corkhill declined, and the court ruled that if the prisoner took the stand te day his direct aud cre.s examination must proceed te the end. Gtiiicait was then takcu from the stand aud Sco Sce villo icad a number of letters from Guiteau te his father and ether members of his family, covering a period of liflccn or twenty years. The prisoner seemed deeply interested during the reading of letters aud frequent ly interjected remarks, such as, " Well, you can sce I was badly cranked about that time ;" "that miserable community it makes mc mad every tiinoltliiiikefit." Scevillc icad from ene el" the letters, "I am iu with Jesus Chi ist & Ce. aud am working for them." aud Guiteau put in, " That was my sentiment." AVIieu the lcttcis wcic all ic.vl Guiteau was agaiu put en the stand. He answered promptly, intelligently and with perfect coolness, apparently enjoying the freedom given him te talk all he liked. He get vci j much excited every time the Oneida com munity was fpekcu of and said "Ne, yes ; sole idea was te .sleep with the young girls. Nobody else could though," he said, "and all the time I was there I was piactically a Shaker." Guiteau ?aid he did net; believe in any 'religion. Before his examination was concluded, a recess was taken. After lcccts Guiteau resumed the stand. "IIg get thoroughly disgusted with the Oneida community, though he was in hell there, and made up his mind te Icave them." His letters writ ten at time, he thought, suggested the ctate of his miiitl IIe went le New Yerk te establish a great religious paper te lit; called the Thcecrin, but he met with no encouragement ; the wise newspaper fellows he consulted thought the name was enough te damn it. He get discouraged, thought he was going te lese his soul, could net get any relief, and se went back again te the community. He get relief there. I'lis idea in establishing the Thcecrat was te rip up all the churches aud establish ilietn all ever again. He stayed with the community p. year and left them finally in November, 18C0, since which time he had had nothing te de with them. The icrreu he abandoned his suit against the community was be cause Bccchcr and his fiiends in New Yerk were beginning te respect him and he did net want te disgiace himself by having his connection with the community known.
