C, Aug. 31.-8:30 A. m. Official. The president has passed a tranquil night and this morning his condition is quite as favorable as yesterday at the same hour. Pulse 100, temperature 98.1, respiration 18. Signed D. W. Bliss, J. E. Barnes, J. J. Woodward, Rodt. Reyburn, F. H. Hamilton, D. ll. Agnew. Increased Satisfaction ami Confluence. Washington, D. C, August 31.-10:15 a. m. Unofficial The surgeons regard the president's condition this morning with increased satisfaction and encourage ment. The parotid swelling has steadily improved in appearance and it is thought that the patient has in all ether respects gained ground slowly during the past twenty-four hours. He is thus far having a quiet, comfertablo day. Among the members of the cabinet and the president's personal friends there is a growing feeling of encouragement and con fidence, and it seems te be the general impression that by Saturday et Sunday, when the glandular swelling shall have ceased te be a hiudcrauce, the pa tient will enter the stage of convalescence. Postmaster General James called at the executive mansion this morning, but upon seeing the bulletin within the deer, said, " That is geed enough ; I'll gote the de partment and go te work, " and he drove away without coming up stairs. The Swelling Diminished and Condition Im proved. Executive Mansion, Washington, D. C, Aug. 31.-12:30 p. it. Official At the dressing of the president this morning the parotid swelling was found te be dis charging freely. It leeks well and has materially diminished iu size. The wound remains in about the same state. His general condition is evidently mere favor able than this hour yesterday. Pulse 95, temperature 98.4, respiration 17. Signed D. W. Bliss, J. J. Woodward, .). K.Barnes, Robt. Reyburn, D. II. Agnew, F. 11. Hamilton. Very Kuceuraglug. Washington. Aug. 31. The following was sent this afternoon te Lewell, minis ter, Londen : The president's condition is very encouraging te-day. Pulse down te 95, lower than it has been for several weeks ; temperature aud respiration nor mal. Ne adveise symptoms apparent at this hour (2 p. ni), Signed Blaine, See'y. The 4uodlleu of Removal Again. Washington, Aug. 31, 2:30 p. in. Un official. In an interview with a reporter of the associated press, at 2:15 p. m., Dr. Bliss said that the president's condition is highly satisfactory, aud that he is making very favorable progress in every way. The parotid swelling has been reduced te two thirds of its maximum size and steadily di minishing. The patient continues te take feed well and has iuade a slight gain in strength. The question of his re. meval from the executive mansion is again bciug seriously considered. The president himself wishes te go te Menter, but al though he will doubtless be taken there eventually the first removal will be te a shorter distance. It will take place at the earliest possible moment. The pa tient's pulse at noeu went down te 95, for the first time since the 8th of August, and is stil below 100, with all the ether symp toms correspondingly favorable. m Y W1UE.
