A Successful Clown. The Man Who Makes People Laugh Who Us Is. There is probably no performer en the American stage better known te the pub lic than Geerge II. Adams, the pantomime clown, who was in this city recently with the Teny Denier troupe. Mr. Adams is twenty-six years of age, and is a native of England. His father is Charles H. Adams, one of the best Pantaloons in the country. He comes from a family of circus people, being a descendant of the famous Coeke family of riders and clowns, and he is a cousin of W. W. Cele, the circus mana ger. At the early age of six years Geerge was apprenticed te the manager of Ast ley's in Londen. He remained with him eight years. During the last year he went with the company te Copenhagen in Den mark. Ne clown had been engaged and Geerge asked permission te go into the ring. This was granted and he seen scored a big hit by his wonderful tum bling, he being an excellent acrobat. Shortly after this he came te Amer ica and he performed for several years as a circus clown. He made his first appearance in pantomime, in the city of Brooklyn, where he played clown with his father as PanViloen. He was suc cessful from the start and his wonderful stilt act always made a hit. Later in his career he traveled with the Nick Roberts pantomime company for several years and he was always the big card. Fer the past three seasons he has been with Teny Denier, and his success as clown has been simply wonderful. Mr. Denier has given him a large number of beautiful presents, the handsomest being the large geld badge which he wears at all times. It is shaped in the form of a double circular with the monogram "G. H. A." set with seventeen diamonds as a link te Iho upper and lower circular. It is engraved with a suitable inscription showing Mr. Denier's esteem. It is a beautiful badge and is valued at $500. Mr. Denier recently gave him a fine cigar smoker with the head of Geerge L. Fex upon it. He has also been the recipient of ether valuable presents from Mr. Denier, including an amethyst ring with the letter "A" set with twelve diamonds. Fer a number of years Mr. Adams was known as " Grimaldi. " Several ether clowns took this name, however, claiming that they had a right te it. Tbey were far inferior te Adams and the public were often misled by them. This season Mr. Adams dropped that title and he new plays nnder bis own name. He is a broth er of "Pice," the celebrated circus clown, new with.W. "W. Cele's circus in Austra lia. His father has net been traveling this season, but is living in Chicago, where the clown resides. Adams is a very pleasant and agreeable dan off the stage and he has many friends both in and out of the profession. He is acknowledged te be one of the best if net the best clown living. He is young and a hard worker, and he has a brilliant fu ture before him. He will remain with Mr. Denier's treupe until the close of the season, which will be July 5, and next season he will have a troupe of his own, which will be under the management of Adam Forepaugh, the renowned circus manager. His troupe is new being organized and it will take the read early in the season. It will include a large number of excellent people and they will travel by their own special passenger and baggage coaches, carrying scenery, &c, with them. m It is Caring Everybody," writes a druggist. Brussels, Ghent, Silesia, Bohemia. We have ransacked all Europe for lings?,, and have a variety of both fabric and finish that could net be gathered in thft American market. The goods are fresh, tee. That's important ; for linens; bought in Naw Yerk may be several years old, and you knew starched linens., de net improve by age. The dressings used by the manufacturers is net se de structive as starch ; but it does injure the fabric in time. We have another advantage in prices. We gain the importer's profit. The result is we get the best linens in the world, iii the best possible condi tion, and for the least money anybody can get then for. We can give yen. the importers' profit, and still have enough left. New it is proper for te consider that somebody else may be doing the same thing, and afford the very same advantages. Se, if you please, whatever you wish te buy get samples of it from us and from ethers, and compare. Or buy our goods, if you like ; and if you can de as well elsewhere, bang ours back. This is rather a brave challenge ; for, you knew nobody wants remnants. The linens new in are sheeting, pillow, bolster and shirting linens, tewela tewelings, doilies, napkins, table cloths and table linens. -:e JOHN WANAMAKER, Chestnut, Thirteenth and Market Sts., PHILADELPHIA. fACOB SI.
