LANCASTER DAILY INTELLIGENCEK, WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 2, 1&L Lancaster fntellificncer. WEDNESDAY EVENING. FEB. 2, 1881. "Electric Oil." A Handsome Prelit ma Bucket of Bed Leineaade. A street "fakir" or Tender of nostrums succumbed te the recent wintry weather, and fogged a bed a night or two age at a Washington station house. A reporter for the Star interviewed him as he was warm ing his feet at the stove before retiring te his couch, and get the following story from him, which may have mere than a local moral. lie said : "I can tell you a rather funny story about mv experience here in the fall of 1879. I think it was the most amusing I ever had. I was out te the Keckville lair helping a fellow who ran a ' hit me hard ' machine, two strikes for five centsanda cigar every time the jumper went up te 100. Business was pretty geed, my divvy ' being 11 for the two days I was there. As the fair was closing I noticed that a fellow who had kept a lemonade stand had nearly a bucket full of the red looking fluid en hand. 1 asked him what he intended te de with it, and he said he should threw it away. 'Give it te me,' I asked, and he consented. Well I brought the stuff here and purchasing a gross of small vials at Stott's drug store, bottled it. Yeu can believe me or net, but 1 assure you I sold it at twenty-five cents a bottle. I steed at the space corner of Eighth street and Pennsylvania avenue, and the stuff had a run. I announced that I was the 'king of all pain,' the name that I have used when ever selling a medicine, aud I called the red lemonade thc Electric Oil.' I wasn't much surprised at selling the stuff, for I have a geed lecture en pain aud hew te prevent it, a thing that sounds pretty well and always gees with a street crowd, but I was taken aback a little when the man came back the next day aud bought another bottle. lie said it had cured a bad attack of neuralgia which had given his wife a great deal of trouble As I took in his money I could -hardly keep from laughing. A single thought saved me and it has been a satisfaction te me many times. It is this : ' We are born te de benefits.' I did that man a benefit, and under the circumstances there was no wrong in taking his money. The 'Electric Oil' had one advantage- ever a large por tion of the nostrums that arc sold in the street, aud that is the liomeoopathic prepa rations, it wouldn't de any harm even if it did no geed. That bucket of red lemon ade brought in te me in all $72. It breugt relief from pain, I mcau te many, even if it did net cure all who tried it." Put Him Inte the W eli. The Frenchwoman as a vengeauce taker is the most conspicuous success known te modern civilization. It was she that in vented vitriol throwing, and she invents a new method of punishment for faithless men whenever she get a chance. A peas ant girl near Paris was deserted by her lever, aud he was rash enough te call en her seme time afterward. He found her washing clothes in a garden near a shallow well. They leaned ever the edge of the well aud chatted, and she, as if accidentally dropped a cloth into the water. He leaned ever te reach it and puli out for her and she took him by the feet and threw him in head first. lie couldn't get out unaided, aud she told him she would pull him out if he premised te marry her. He did se, and she made him keep his word, though when once out again he was very unwilling te de se. Cured of Drinking. "A young friend et mine was cured et an insatiable thirst ler Liquor, that had se pros trated his system that he was unable te de any business. He was cntiiely cured by the ue et Hep Bitters. It allayed all th.it burning thirst; took away the appetite ler liquor; made his nerves steady, ami he h.is remained a sober and steady man ler mere than two yeaiv, and has no ucsiru te return te hUcups, and 1 knew of a number of ethers who have been cured et drinking ly it."
