H was ascertained that the stab in the tern pie bad penetrated to the brain, and in his side the knife passed entirely through the liver. McDowell was arrestsd, and on exam ination, committed to await trial. His broth er Edward McDowell, was also in some way concerned in the affair ; he was bound over in S3OO bonds, and committed in default of bail. From the testimony of some of the witnes ses, and an examination of the wounds, it ap pears that the knife used by McDowell was a terrible weapon. It is represented as having a blade some six inches lung and over an ir.cn wide. The knife, however, which he gave to the constable, and which he and sointTof the witnesses swear was the one he used, is a very ordinary pocket-knife. Harden, of New Jersey, who was convicted of murder in the first degree for killing his wife, was brought into court for sentence on Thursday.
