About six weeks previous to the uu 1 time of planting in tho open ground, mark out a pieie of grouud, say four or ive feet wide, and os long as required, on t dry and sheltered place; dig out tliesur ace to a depth of five or si., inehes ; place oards around to keep up the loam or sand ; I lien fill to the depth of six inches, with .lorseor Borne mauuro which has been thrown over to produce heat and tread it lown lightly, as for a hot-bed and cover iie manure with four inches of Joam. I ;eep some in my barn cellar through the vinter to be ready at any time. It is also veil to keep tlio ground covered during i lie winter, where the bod is to bo made, vith straw or something to keep out the rost. Then pack your potatoes as close .is you can, over the surface, a inglo thick iess; cover with four inches of loam, or ;vhat is bctler, sand, as the sprouts are lougher and do not separate so easily from die potato in lifting, I cut my potatoes i day or even weeks before, and place .hem cut side down. At night cover w ith traw or coarse hay ; in tho morning, if nild, and no rain, take oil' the covering and replace at night. In caso of continued dry weather a slight watering may be of service, though seldom necessary. When ilte time for planting arrives, land ma nured and furrowed, take up the front board, and with a dung fork lift as many as it will hold ; givo them a shake, and separate eat.li. plant carefully by hand, placing them in a basket or box : then drop them either for hills or rowg, and have a person follow to cover ns fast as possible, placing an inch or two of earth over the tops, through which they will break in a few hours. If planting has been delayed from any cause and the plants should have attained considerable growth, (I have planted them when a foot high and had them do well.) lay them down and cover as above. If your field is not too far from your dwel ling, make the bed there, as it saves ex posure in carrying the plants to a distance. With a few boards and stakes n shelter can be made to keep oft" the cold winds. By sprouting potaties in this way you can have them ready to dig at least three weeks earlier. A Jamaica Tlain Farmkr.
