PENNSYLVAJ NIA AND TILE CASE OP PASSMORE" WILLIAMSON. PHILAD'ELPIIII,,. September: 8.:---The Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, which is now in session here, has refused to grant the release of Passmore liamson. -Judge Lowrie concurred in the de cision, although he differed frern the others in some of the views of the case, Judge Knox dissented from the Judge Black read the decision.— The ground taken is that the court has no jutisdictiou to warrant its interfer ing with the judgment of the federal courts; that such courts have exclusive power iu deciding cases of contempt, and this court could nut go behind the record to ascertain the tact whether the commitment was legal ur nut. Judge Knox in his adverse opinion contends that the District Court had no jurisdiction to issue a writ of habeas corpus in the first place, and that Wilitamson was guilty of .nu crime in refusing to answerlt. He also urger that the power to issue writs of habeas corpus coufwed . exclusively to state courts.
