Romance and Matrimony. The Martinsburg New -Lora, vouches for the following bit of "love and romance," which is but another chapter in the history of woman's strange caprices. The dull monotony of our town was broken on Tuesday by a little episode which threw - impeachment completely in the shade, and clearly demonstrated that truth is ofttiraes stranger than fiction. The facts aro these: A young and rather pre possessing lady of Bunker Bill, was en.' gaged to be married to a gentleman living in Missouri. Tuesday last was the day fixed for the celebration of the nuptials. The bridegroom and his attendants had ar rived.. Monday evening found a convivial party at the residence of the bride's father .among the number, the expectant bride groom, his attendants and several near relatives, together with the youth and beau ty of the surrounding country: And there was present, also as an invited guest,' a former affiareed and • discarded lover of the prospective bride.' But there was in this nothing strange. The hours, on rosy wings, flew swiftly by. It was a 'merrie companic.' The bridegroom, in blissful ignorance of 'breakers ahead' was gliding smoothly and peacefully along in Fancy's bark, counting the hours that in tervened between him and consummation of his happniess. But alas! for fleeting hopes and woman's fickleness : A change had come o'er the spirit of the blushing maiden's dreams—of her who had promised on the morrow, to become the partner of his joys and sorrows. Her heart wandered back to her first love. What high tricks does Cupid sometimes play? It was near the 'witching hour of the night,' and the bridegroom was there, the license had been procured, the attendants were in waiting, and everything in read iness 'for the performance of the nuptial rites on the following morning. But what 'of that., The bridelmd changed her mind —an easy thing for woman to do. She had suddenly concluded not to give her hand to him who had journeyed from the far West to claim it. tier determination was made public, and there was a sensation in the assemblage. She said she would only wed the man of her first love. Tears and entreaties finally prevailed,' and the 'old gentleman,' in a relenting mood, gave her permission to reverse her choice- She did it. We leave the reader to judge of the feelings of the bridegroom when informed of the suddzn turn affairs bad taken. It must have given his faith in - woman a pretty heavy shock, to say the least, but he. must remember that, there is 'nanny a slip 'twixt the cup and thelip,' and that nothing is certain except death. The' wedding Caine off in the Presbyterian church in this place on Tuesday according to previous arrangements, but. it 'Was like the play of Richard 111, with Richard left out. There was a. change of partners.. The discarded lover - was the, bridegroom, and the bridegrooln, that was to be, be came a discarded lover: The afthir afforded much food for gossip, and has licert the 'town talk' ever Since.- The disappointed lover bore up under it' manfully. Instead of taking 'a cup of cold pizen,' he took the first train for his West ern borne, preferring not to realize how bitter a thing it is to look into happiness throug another man's eyes; A C.nrcAoo paper gives along list of Re publican suocesses' which have, recently been achieved at thO West. The Republi cans have, carried by decisive majorities Madison, the capital of Wisconsin, St Paul, Minnesota, and Peoria, Illinois, all hitherto strongholds of the Democracy. Kenosha, which went Democratic last year, and Racine, which is usually close, have now chosen Republican municipal tickets. The RePublicans have likewise, aside from the vote- on the new 'Constitution, swept Michigan by their usual majority, and increased their majority in Wisconsin to the extent of seven thoasands. -Grant's name is a tower of strength to the Western Republicans. - WATCHES, JEWELRY, BAILEY & .0 0 . 819 Chestritit -St., PHILADELPHIA. rYT—A_INIONDS, • Pearls, Itutiles,Sappliires,Emeraidslizire Gems, Engagement Rings, Wedding lungs. EXPLAINED The following letter of inquiry was lately received, and as similar . questions have frequently been asked before, we will answer them through the press :' - 11AltIt' ISlttrlta, Feb. 10th, 1868 • Dr. S. B. Hay/ruin di Co.:, GentS Abraham Alartin;of this county, paid me a visit on the 10th of December last. I observed an' ulcer behind. his ear. and his eyes alsovere sore. On questioning him, he told me that lie had several on his leg, and small ones all over his body, and even among the roots of his hair, with shooting Imins along the bones. I advised him to write to' you, and see - What you would say of Ids case, knowing Dr. liartinan to be a practising' physician of the old school. Be followed my advice, and wrote to you all the facts; which you answered by stating that his disease was Scrofula, or some other constitution al disease,- and you advised him to take /llisbler's Green Label Bitters. Be bought six bottles of Dr. Bllmaker, a druggist in Lancaster, and com menced with - a tablespoonful every three hours, and ttratlually increased the dose to asmell wine glass full, and then diminished gradually again to the same dose he began' :with ; he said these were your directions. I saw him this morning, bale and hearty—perfectly cured—even his eyes are well—which I consider remarkable, as I have known persons to be afflicted with inflamed eyes all through life. I never saw a mau more delighted • and having myself been cured of a most terrible, llugering Dyspepsia. I about a. y ear ago, by your Bitters, I asked him fhe had any in the house. " 0 yes," said he. And going to the cupboard, handed me a bottle halt lull, and, saying, "this is what I have left from the six bottles." I took a swallow, and it tasted so un like the Bitters that T bad taken, that I was sure it was not Mishler's Bitters; and he having never taken any other, declared that he bought it for, Misbler's Bitters. Unable to decide the question, I concluded to write to you, and ask if you have more than one kind. 'yours, most respectfully, CHARLES FORREY ANSWER LANCASTER, Feb. 14th, 1868 Mr. Cliarle.v Porrey: Dear Sir :—Yours of the 10th Inst., is at hand, and in reply, would say, we make three kinds of Bitters.. The one you used for Dyspepsia is caned MISHLEWS HERB BITTERS, generally 'sold few a dollar, or one dollar and twenty-rive cents a bottle. It is always used for Dyspepsia, Rheumatism, Kidney Affections and diseases of the Lungs and Throat, &c.; and in these ft is a sure and permanent remedy. Dr. Hartman, on referring to his books, finds that we have cured, since the 2d of July 1867, the time we became the proprietors of this institu tion 213 cases of Dyspepsia; 78 of Chronic Rheu matism; 107 of lingering Coughs and Colds; 93 of Kidney Affections; 17 of Yellow Jaundice; 73 of I.Veuralgia; 43 of Ileadeche.and Sick Headache , 19 of Lumbago or pain in the back; 10 of General Debility; 27 of Chills and Fever, and 37 not well defined. • • There are, of course, thousands Who have used Mishler's Herb Bitters, that never visited 1)r. Hartman, nor wrote to him, rwith doubtless the same effect. But the number abovegiven, are carefully recorded in a book, with their address. Those that liwo visited the Doctor are marked V, and those that have written to him W. This book is open to everybody, and fill of them can be written to, if desired. MISI-1147ER'S Green Label. 'Bitters, is the kind that has alwaYs been used for Scrof ula, Old Running Sores and 'Ulcers, and delicate diseases, caused by imprudence, excess exposure or early indiscretion ; also, for skin diseases of every kind, and Inflammatory Rheumatism. These Bitters are now sold everywhere, at one dollar and fifty cents per bottle; and although never before advertised -have at present nearly as large a sale as the Herb Bitters. They have been sold in Philadelphia. New York, Baltimore and some other places at two and three dollars per bottle. They are the only sure remedy for the diseases just named. We could refer the reader to over Dye hundred cases of the most miraculous cures produced within the last six months, by the GREEN LABEL BITTERS ; but ,most persons, suffering from these com plaints, will not allow thew names to be pub lished, a thing we never do' except by special permission. MISII_LER'S Red Label Bitters, which is the third variety of onr preparation, will surely cure all chronic complaints peculiar to females. Ladles suffering from any irregu larities, will find them a great boon. Every - lady that is pale with palpitation of the heart, or a Buttering sensation about that 'organ, with a shortness of breath after a little exertion, will find these Bitters a panacea. From two to four bottles will entirely cure all such cases. In short, every other lady, young or old, the world over, should use this medicine. And we predict, that in less than one year, or at least as soon as the fair sex thoroughly understand its merits, no more pale, emaciated and disconsolate faces will be seen; but all women will at least look fresh and hearty, if not beautiful and fair AS Queens and when asked, howearae the change, nil will answer, through MISECLER'S RED LABEL BITTERS They are sold everywhere, at one dollar and fifty centb - , per bottle. 'Hoping you, as well as the rest of mankind, are not disappointed in the fact, that the large array of certificates of cures effected by Mishler's Bitters, of every conceivable disease, which we and Mr. ;dishier have published heretofore, was the work of three distinct preparations, and not one only, We are, respectfully yours, &c., S.
