Queen Emma,of the Saudwhich 'glands -sailed from New York for - home on ; Saturday last, Nike Murphy, apa five other Fenians, esoaped from the jail at Corn wall,Canada., during a heavy storm, on Saturday night, and, it is said, made their escape across the border into the United States. The y jail was strongly guarded, and the man ner of their, escape is a mystery, A municipal election was held on Tues day last, in Wilmington, Del., and the Union ticket was successful by an in creased majority. The radical union committee of Missouri has issued an address urging the party to organize, in view of an appre heuded civil war in the State. Maj. Gen. Miles has been relieved from Command at Fortress Monroe.— Brig. Gen. 11". S.Burton is his successor. The findings of the military commis sion which tried Maj. Gee,late command er of Salisbury rebel prison, have been published. They accinit him of the two pharges against him, viz : violation of the laws of war, and murder in violation of such laws. The Toledo (Ohio) Blade says a gentleman arrived there or: Wednesday Vora Bowling Green, Ky., who bad left in consequence of having received an anonytnous letter, of which the following is a copy: "Mr. : Sir:—You are hereby notified to quit this State within three days. Mass., on the 2nd, inst.,caused an extra ordinary and singular destrnction of property. About one million and a half feet of the best pine lumber was blown to splinters, while several build ings rose and desoepded in the form of a shower of bricks, each brick being sep' erate'd by the concussion. The loss by the Are is estimated at $130,000. The notorious Col. Ives; formerly aid de.camp to Jefferson Davis; and engineer in-chief on the staff of General Lee, was reported to have some years ago grossly instilted a young lady and treated her with such'violence'that her life was en dangered. Having appeared in the streets of New York on the 3rd inst., he was followed by an indignant mob and narrowly escaped personal violence.— Colonel Ives married a sister of Raphael Semmes. Rufus Hersey, a grocer at Hingham, Mass., blew out his brains, a few days ago, for grief at being forbidden by the local authorities to sell lager beer. Cholera is decreasing in New York 2nd the vicinity. The bulletins show a great falling off. A.few days ago Coroner Taylor was called upon to visit a house, near Third and Master Streets, Philadelphia. in the lower story he found the body of a woman, On the second floor was the body of a man and in a room adjoining was a woman in 'a dying condition, lying apOrt a pile of , rags. Everything be tokened destitution of the worst kind, and the neighbors had thrown chloride of lime in the house to disinfect it. .The dead bodies were removed,a.nd the dying woman was left there, the physician in attendance having given up all hope of saving her life. As the real facts of the New Orleans riot are brought to light it does become more and more apparent that it was a cruel and criminal slaughter of innocent men. Gen. Sheridan's report sheds no doubtful light on the .soence and on the parties. The first version the public got of his despatches was mutilated and incorrect; the reports as we are now get ting of them speak in a different tone. He says most' explicitly that it "was no riot; but an cdisolitte massacre 12, the police." And he affirms that in murderous cruelty - - it Was not 'excelled - by " the murder at Fort Pillow. Ile brands Mayor Monroe as a - badman, and thinks he ought to be removed immediately. He says that the Mayor, in the organization of his police force,.zelected many .desperate men, and some of Ahem known murderers. Hon. Hanibal Hamlin has resigned his position as Collector of the Port at Boston, because he has no sympathy with or cannot acquiesce in the measures of the Johnson party. The convention of Southern Loyalists assembled in Philadelphia, on Monday, and the day was a gala one.' There was a_profuse display of bunting throughout. the city. The So . uthern delegates were received in Independence square, ana were - escorted to the Union League House, by a large procession composed of the Boys in 'Blue, Union League, National Union Clab,firemeu and citizens generally. Then there was a speech of welcome by Hon. Charles Gibbons, and a reply from Gov. Hamilton, of Texas.— The delegates next proceeded to National Flail, where the convention was tempo rarily organized. Jump ing up on a chair he loudly asked, "How many ladies here will give milk for the brave soldiers ?" to which an elderly lady responded, that " for one she could not,—she had not given milk for ten years;" which so utterly confounded the young lawyer, that he was entirely unable to prosecute his inquiry,and it has never been satisfactorily known hoW many ladies there were at this meeting who would have promised "to give milk for the brave soldiers." • A METEORIC SHOWER EXPECTED.- Many of our readers well remember the great meteoric shower of November,lB33, which was visible throughout North America. These meteorio showers are said by astronomers to be periodical, re turning at intervals of about 33 years.— Professor Newton, of Yale College, who has devoted much time to the investiga tion of the subject, states that a similar phenomenon will probably occur about the 13th or 14th of November next, and so confident are astronomers generally that it will then appear, that extensive preparations are being made by scientific men in Europe to observe it..
