A flint to nailroad Lovers. We were says the Dubuque Times of Thursday week, eye-witness to an affec t onate scene yesterday. One of the it - dispensables for a good railroad trip is good company, and that we had. Even t•me drags, unless the company, has some subject for amusement; and that we had. Ahead of our crowd was a loving couple taking evidently their first trip after mar riage, or their last before. there was no visible means of determining which They dung to each other as if determined that only death should part them, and were evidently inclined to depart as far from the perpendicular as the back of the seat and the side of the car would allow. While going slowly over Manchester bridge, a little boy was induced by the offer of an apple to convey to the lap of the amorous swain a note written by some scamp. "Hadn't you better take a sleep ing car?" An exploding shell could not have separated them quicker ; thence pnward the car contained no more per pendicular couple than they. —Since Congress voted to prohibit the sale of intoxicating liquors in the Capitol, some of the members bring the "critter" with them, in the fashion of the ancients —in skins. —The Cholera, after it was supposed it had entirely left England, has made its reappearance at Bristol. It was car ried there by German emigrants. and hereafter all emigrants from Germany are to be excluded from England until they have passed a rigid examination. A homeopathic physician of consider able celebrity says;—"The surest pre ventive for cholera,is sulphur. Put half a teaspoonful of flour of sulphur into each of your stockings and go about your business; never go out with an empty stomach; eat no fresh bread or sour food. This is not only a preventive in cholera, but also in many other epidemic diseases, Not one of themany thousands who have followed this, my advice, has been at tacked by cholera. —Just imagine a newly-wedded couple t 3 pending the first night of their married life in jail. They were married in the morning, became gloriously drunk before noon, and were furnished with private cells in the county jail before night. All this transpired recently in Indianapolis. Being in the circulation, it pervades the whole' body, and may burst out in disease on any part of it. No organ is free from its attacks, nor is there one which it may not destroy. The scrofulous taint is variously caused by mercurial disease, low living, dis ordered. or unhealthy food, impure air, filth and filthy habits, the uepressing vices, and, above all, by the venereal infection. Nnut ever be its origin it , is hereditary in the con stitution, descending "from parents to children unto the third and fourth generation ; " indeed, it seems to be the rod of Ilim who says, "I will visit the iniquities of the fathers upon their children." Its effects commence by deposition from the blood of corrupt or ulcerous matter, which, in the lungs, liver, and internal organs, is termed tubercles; iu the glands, swellings; and on thb•surfnee, 'eruptions or sores. This foul cor ruption, which genders in the blood, depresses the energies of life, so that i.eroftilotts constitu tions not only suffer front scrofulous com plaints, but' they have far less power to with stand the attacks of other diseases; conse quently vast numbers perish by disorders which, although not scrofulous in their nature, are still rendered final 1 :4 this taint in the system. Most of the consumption which de cimates the human family has its origin directly in this scrofulous contamination and many destructive diseases of the liver, kidneys, brain, and, indeed, of all the organs, arise from or are aggravated by the same cause. One quarter of all our people are scrofulous ; their persons are invaded by this lurltim , in fection, and their health is undermined by s it. To cleanse it from the system we must renovate the blood 'by an. alterative medicine, and in vigorate it by. healthy ,food mid exercise. Such a medicine we supply in • AYER'S Compound Extract of Sarsaparilla, the most effectual remedy which the medical skill of our times can devise for this every where prevailing and fatal malady. It is com bined from the most active remedials that have been discovered for the expurgation of this foul disorder from the blood, and the rescue of the system from its destructive consequences. hence it should be employed for the cure of not only Scrofula. but also those other affec tions which arise from it, such as F.:aurTivn and SKIN Drsr•..tsys, Sr. AN•CITONY's ELITE, 110 SE, or Euvsu•lr.As, Pi NI pLES, ]'us•rur.rs, 13r.o•rerns. A_ 'Y M "R, ' S Ague Cure, FOR Tut SPEEDY CURE or Intermittent Fever, or Fever and Ague, Remittent Fever, Chill Fever, Dumb Ague, Periodical licadaelle, or Bilious Headache, and Bilious Fevers, indeed for the whole class of diseases originat ing in biliary derangement, caused by the Malaria of Miasmatic Countries. We are enabled here to offer the community a remedy which, while it cures the above complaints with certainty, is still erfeelly harmless in any quantity. Such a remedy is invaluable in districts where these afflicting disorders prevail. This "Corte." expels the miasmatic poison of FF.YEtt AN AGUE from the system, and prevents the de velopment of the disease, if taken on the first ap proach of its premonitory symptoms. It is not only the best remedy ever yet discovered for this class of complaints, but also the cheapest. The large quantity we supply for a dollar Itrnigs it within the reach of every body ; and in bilious districts, where FErs.tt AND Aunt; prevails, every body should. have it and use it freely both for cure and. protec tion. A great superiority oft this remedy over any other ever discovered for the speedy and certain cure of Intermittents is that it contains no Quinine or mineral, consequently It produces no quinism or other injurious effects whatever upon the constitu tion. Those cured by it are left as healthy as if they had never had the disease. Never and Ague is not /lone the consequence of the miasmatic poison. it great variety of disor ders arise from its irritation, among which are NeuraVa, Rheumatism, Gout, headache, Blintl ness, 1 oothache, Earache, Catarrh, Asthma, Pal pitation, Pain ful Affection of the Spleen, Blister. zes, Pain in the Bowels, Colic, Paralysis and Ve ranyement of the Stomach, all of which, when originating in this cause, put on the intermitlent type, or become periodical. This " CURE " expels the poison from the blood, and consequently cures them all alike. It is an invaluable protection to immigrants and persons travelling or temporarily residing in the malt - Mous districts. If taken occa sionally or daily while exposed to the infection, - that will be excreted from the system, and cannot accumulate in sufficient quantity to ripen into dis ease. Hence it is even more valuable for protec tion than cure, and few will ever suffer from Inter mittents if their avail themselves of the protection this remedy affords. Prepared by Dr. J. C.
