TlOLl'AVE'llX.—gouday evening last being Hallowe'en, was celebrated by the young of both sexes in the usual manner. Some were compelled to close their shut ters for fear of having the windows broken by furious showers of corn. Steps were removed and placed in the middle of the walks, causing neansightel pedestrians to stumble. We passed acJuple of young lridies on Locust street, having their mouth's full of water, hoping to hear with whom they were destined to be united. One young lady on Front street remained up until midnight and looked down the well to see the face of her " true lovyer." She drew back alarmed and rushed into the house, almost frantic, saying she seen the image of a man who was in Fisher's Hun dred Day Regiment. PEN YOUR Boas.—As it is very wear the season of the year for butchering and laying up your winter supply of pork, we think it would be advisable for the persons who own the animals, daily to be seen on our street.% to house them, and put them through a fattening process. They are a nuisance on the streets, and if the owners do not attend to them, it would be policy for the council to enforce the `•liog Law," and dispose of them to persons who would keep them penned. GOOD TEmPLAns.—At a meting of Hope Lodge, No. 8, I. 0. of G. T., held in their Hall, on Tuesday evening, Novem ber Ist, the following officers were install ed to serve the ensuing term : NV. C. T., Bessie Wilford ; W. V. T., Eli H. Eydo: W. S., W. U. Hess; W. A. S., Sadie Fisher: W. T., T. J. Wright; W. Y. S., J. F. Houston ; P. W. C.T., R. C. Fisher ; W. R. H. S., S. W. Mifflin ; W. L. H. S., J: Davis Wright; W. C., T. R. Viekroy; NI., George Richards; W. D. M., L. San tee ; W. I. G., Alice Clark ; W. 0. G,, L. C. Oberlein. The Lodge is in a flourishing condition and is wielding a great moral influence in this section. A great many young men, who were on the downward road, have, through its influence, become ornaments to society. 0 Utt BOltOta is gradually recover ing from the stupor produced by the saleof the public works—the sound of the trowel and tone-hammer is heard in almost every street, and the proprietors of every branch of industry, appear to be reaping a rich reward for their labors. The Reading and Columbia Railroad company have completed their road to Union street, near the centre of the town ; havepurchased the substantial brick build ing adjoining, and converted it into a beau tiful passenger depot and ticket °dice— have purchased several vacant lots and erected, thereon,.a freight depot—and arc engaged in beautifying that locality with all the modern improvements. Capt. Kerr, of the Washington Muse, is making a decided and permanent im provement, by easing the large column in front, with iron. The captain has always been noted for substantial improvements, and having spent some eighteen months in the army, along the James river, and witnessed the operations of Gun-boats and the great naval engagement between the Merrimac and Monitor, it is not at all strange that he should be. in favor of iron clads. Domestie happiness is said to be on the inepea4c, and notwithstanding the high price of calico, dimity and butter, matri monial pursuits have never been in a more flourishing condition since the "falls ofNi agora ;" but the price of potatoes, polities and betting on the result are decidedly on the decline.
