COLUMBIA AFFAIRS :, Business in this dine honored Borough has wonder fully revived. within the last twelve months. 'To one who has not visited the place for some time, and now observes the changes on every hand in a busi ness point of view, it is really remarkable. The idea of "fencing-in" the town, as was once the jocular remark by some of the windy ventilators, have. changed their tune, and now talk in a more jubilant strain of its prosperity. The Rolling Mills and Furnaces are doing a large business, orders for work having crowded on their hands to a remarkable extent.— The greatest trouble is, a want of han s .. 4 to upply their customers. The Planing i lof our old friend Bauchman is :thi) T) ing to its utmost capacity. The icultural Shops also of the' Messrs. Brandt, have more to do in the almanac tare of Hay R a k es an d other implements in their line of business than it is possi ble for them to accomplish, notwithstand ing the large number of excellent work men in their employ. A very general opinion prevails among the business men of the community that an extensive Car Shop Manufactory and Rolling Mill will be erected in the vicinity of the town sometime during the summer. We hope madame rumor don't "lie" under a mis take in this particular case. The Steam Ferry-boat, under the auspices of our social friend of the Railroad House, Jos. Black Esck, will commence running aoross the river with passengers on Mon day next—so we were informed by "one who knows." This will be a very de sirable feature in conveying nervous pas sengers over the romantic Susquehanna, instead of two-oared skiff. The Hirer was very high yesterday for "pilots" to ran the timber through, but towards evening the surging waves were gradu ally subsiding, and the Yankees there fore may be expected down in a few days among their old friends, who are prepar ed to do them homage—provided, they have plenty of Uncle Sam's greenbacks. Fcnderich & Bros., Front St., have boon dealing very extensively this season in the purchase of leaf tobacco; one lot raised by a farmer in Manor twp., a few miles from the borough of Washington, they paid 10 and 25 cents per pound for. It was probably the finest loaf that the county has produced ; and, as a matter of course, brought the highest price.— This is an enterprising firm, and is do ing a fine business. Mr. Hess, the news agent of the Daily Express, has met with the most decided success in re-es tablishing its circulation, by the cash system, and now receiving 275 copies. which is certainly an excellent medium for Columbiana to make their business wants known. Certificate of Mr. Abner D Campbell, of the firm of Campbell &Marshall, boot and shoe dealers, Centre Square, Lancaster: LANCASTER, PR.,_March 4, 1863. Dit. G. H. MARl:Ley—Dear Sir: It af fords me much pleasure to have an oppor tunity to add my, testimony in favor of your popular family medicines, especially as my knowledge of their efficacy is based upon personal experience in my own case and observation of my neighbors. For many years /...was the victim of Dyspepsia in its most aggravated form ; my system having become so deranged and aebili toted, that I was unable to perform any kind of labor. I laid resorted to the best doctors within reach, without relief. I used some of the most popular remedies of the day, recommended for that disease, but none of them did me any good. My suf fering can be understood by any one suf fering from the same disease, but they could not be,,,dese, ribed in words. I was then living at Hopewell, Chester county., and in 1857, as a last resort, I commenced the use of your medicines. They soon af forded me raief from the most painful symptoms, which I had scarcely hoped to obtain ; and in a surpassingly short time I was completely restored to health, and I have enjoyed the best of health ever since —not a symptom of nay old complaint re maining. Since then 1 have always kept your medicines in my faintly, and would not be without them upon any consid eration, as they have never failed to do what you claim for them. While still living at Hopewell, I . became agent for your father, and sold a large quantity of the medicine for him, and all who used them were loud in 'their praise. A child of \I r. I have seen enough of them to justify the in saying that your family medicines are the best ever presented to the public, of which I have had any knowledge; and it is no less my pleasure than my duly to recom mend them to all who are the victims of disease.
