Soon after the mother also left, leaving her two small children at home alone, and locking the door of the house.— Sometime after some persons passing up the road in a wagon, heard the screams of the children and went to their assistance. The door was burst open, and the children found enveloped in flames. It was the work of but a few moments to extinguish the flames, but not before the younger child had been most horribly burned. Its face and parts of its body were burned to a crisp, and the tongue and throat also burned. The little sufferer lingered in the most excruciating agony for about five hours, when death kindly relieved it of its misery. The other child was not ma terially injured. YOBK.-A little boy, aged abent two years, son of Mr. Peter Matson, of York, met with a fatal accident last week. It appears that the little fellow was at a neighbor's house, and that a young lady had just set a bucket of hot water on the floor, and the child supposing it to be a stool upon which he had been sitting but a few minutes before, seated himself in the bucket. The young lady, who had gone into the cellar, hearing the cries of the child hastened to him to see the cause of•his dis- tress, when she discovered him in the condi tion above described.
