Johnston has been re-ap pointed postmaster at Bellefoute. —Curtin twp., we are informed, ha* 26 mills tax for school and building purposes—Potter twp,, has 9 mills for the same purposes. —We mentioned the fact, in our last, of several funerals taking place on one day, 9th. at Pine Grove Mills. The deaths were, Mr. L. Shirk, of dropsy, aged 61 years. Miss Clara, daughter of Robt. Gregg, diet! of con sumption : and Mr. JosepL Murphy, who also died of consumption. —The spotted fever is raging to an alarming extent at Pino Grove Mills and vicinity. —A disease of the throat is troub ling horses in the lower end of the val ley. Mr. Elis Kramer ofPenn twp., week before last, lost three valuable horses from this disease, and quite a number of others in the neighborhood were suffering from it at the same time. —Daniel Weidensaul has sold the Woodward mill property, to a gentle man of Indiana county, for SIB,OOO —Si. PATRICK'S DAY IN* MILL HKIM.— On last Monday the sons of Erin, working on the railroad in the mountain*, to thennmber of some 50, gathered at Millheim to celebrate St. Patrick's day. As a matter of course they partook copiously of the critter, and things became lively, and a row, such as astonished the "oldest inhabitant'* of Millheim, followed. The Irish bad a brisk time in pound ing each other, and several of their number lay upon the sidewalks terri bly battered and pounded. Sheriff Musser's hotel, as we are informed, was taken in complete possession by the children of the great patron saint of old Ireland. The row was alto gether confined to the Irish, none of the citizens, we are pleaaei to learn, got mixed up in any of the fights, hav ing wisely reft the sons of the green isle to celebrate St. Patrick's day in their own way. —A SISGVLAB FATAL AFFRAY. — We learn that on Thursday, Feb. 6th. Mr. James Lingle, of Goshen twp., while at ShawsviTle, met three orfoor men who had been drinking, and they tried to persuade him to take some liquor, which he refused to do, whereupon tbev undertook to force him to drink. Mr. Lingle resisted their efforts, and in doing so he knock ed one down, when a second one of the parly, a man named Wallace, struck him a slight blow on the mouth. Thus ended the affray, and all parties went to their homes without having sustained any serious damage. A day or two after the occurrence above related, Mr. Lingle's lip and face be came inflamed, erysipelas ensued, and continued to get worse until Saturday, the 15th, when he died from its effects. Such, we are informed, are the facts in the case. This is certainly one of the most singular fatal occurrences that it has ever befallen our lot to record. Mr. Lingle was a large, ro bust, healthy persoD, and hence it seems exceedingly strange that so slight an injury should end bis life. But the ways of Providence are be yond the comprehension of man, and this instance again illustrates the fact, "that in the midst of life we are in death." — Osceola Reveille. For the Reporter. Rev. W. H. Grob, Pastor of the' Reformed church, preached a sermon at Churchville, ou'last Sabbath, which i would have been more precious than jewels and of greater value than dia monds, to every man and woman of the Loop, had they availed themselves of the opportunity to have heard it. You will find his text recorded in St. Lnke, 7 chap., 37 and 38 verseg. VAL. —FAMILY FATALITY. —J/irs. The railroad from Lewistown to Reedsville, is blessed with "stations" —the trains stop opposite every house along the line and in between. Some of the stations look so much like a W box on stilts, that if any kind of a box is accidentally leit lie near enough to the track for the eugiue to see it the old critter will come to a halt sure, thinking it is a new "depot."— Centre Reporter. Even if the trains did stop at every house, how can such an old democrat ic blower like Kurtz find fault with their doiDg so? There is however< evidently a spoke loose somewhere, and we want to know what it is.
