Miss Nellie Huntley, of Driftwood, was an Emporium visitor last Monday. Mrs. Alex. D. Macdonnoll and child ren left last Tuesday for Westboro, Wis. Mr. Bert Smith, of Trenton, N. J , visited at the home of A. C. Blum over Sunday. George Walker and Dr. D. C. Groves drove to Cameron last Tuesday, the latter to call upon patients at that place. Miss Mame Cummings left last Sun day for Buffalo, where she will remain sometime, getting the spring styles in millinery. Mrs. Seeley, of St. Marys, was the guest of her sister, Miss Anna Welsh, at the Catholic Rectory, several days this week. Mr. A. P. VanGelder was called to Summerville, N. J., last Saturday by the death of Mrs. Van Gelder's father, Rev. Dr. Poole. Miss Christie McDonald,who attends St. Elizabeth's College at Allegheny, N. Y , spent the first part of the week with her parents at this place. Mr. and Mrs. W. Wallace Slocum, of Buffalo, N. Y., who have been visit iug friends at Chicago, 111., arrived in Emporium on Wednesday morning on the Washington llyer. They are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. John Gantz, of Fifth street, Mrs. Slocuin's parents. Reed, of Johnsonburg has been visiting friends in town this week, guest of Mrs. Thos. Robinson, West Fifth street. Mr. Reed is foreman of Johnsonburg vertifled brick works. He was a pleasant PRESS caller and placed his name on our books. Council Proceedings. Regular meeting Borough Council, Emporium, Pa., March 6, 1906. Present: Mes=rs. Julian, White, Marshall, Hamilton, Butler, Gregory, Green and Cramer. Absent: Mr. Laßar. Messrs. White, Gregory, Hamilton and Green presented their credentials and were recognized as members of council. Fred Julian and C. J. Goodnough, where chosen temporary President and Secretary, respectively. Moved bv Mr. Butler, seconded by Mr. Marshall, that Mr. Cramer be elect ed President of Council for the ensuing year. Carried. Moved by Mr. White, seconded by Mr. Butler, that R. C. Moore be elected Secretary for ensuing year. Carried. Moved by Mr. Butler, seconded by- Mr. Green, that W. F. Lloyd be elected Treasurer for ensuing year. Carried. The first Monday of each month, at 7:30 o'clock, p. m , was fixed as regular meeting night of Council. Moved by Mr. Butler, seconded by Mr. White, that Secretary's salary be $75 per year. Carried. The order of business of previous council was adopted as order of busi ness of this council. Carried. Minutes of last regular and adjourned meetings read and approved. Message from Burgess was read which vetoed the resolution of Jan. 6, last appointing members of the Board of Health and a sanitary policeman. Moved by Mr. Butler, sconded by Mr. Marshall, that the vote be sustain ed. Carried. The President of Council appointed Dr. H. S. Falk as a member of the Board of Health for the term of five years and on motion by Mr. Butler, seconded by Mr. Julian, the appoint ment was confirmed by Ccuncil. Moved by Mr. Butler, seconded by Mr. Marshall, that a Committee, which should include the Burgess and Presi dent of Council, be appointed to con fer with representatives of the Railroad Company regarding shipment of dynamite, &c., and committee in structed that if, after their conference, they consider an ordinance necessary to report of same. Carried. The President appointed R. M. Over hiser, Burgess; W. H. Cramer, Presi dent of Council; Josiah Howard, B. W. Green and J. F. Parsons as the Com mittee.
