A boot that is in use is a poor sub stitute for a bank and a Potter county woodsman named Houck, who was in Newberry last week, is ready to attest ! this fact. Mr. Houck is §l5O out of i pocket through such an agency. Wednesday George Edler, driver of ! a fire engine, a littie distance up Ly- j coming creek met Houck, who accost- j ed him, saying he had some money j to putin a bank and asking questions j about the Newberry bank. Of course Mr. Edler gave the Newberry bank a substantial recommendation. The woodsman then volunteered the infor mation that he met with misfortune on his trip there from Potter county. He said he had some money and for safety wrapped it in a §IOO bill and placed it in the sole of lilb boot. The wear on the paper money was more it could stand As a result the §IOO bill and some other bills were ground into pulp. At the bank it developed that §550 was the original sum Houck had wish ed to put at interest. Of this amount bills to the extent of §l5O were worn away so they could not be recognized.
