Being informed that he had retired to bed, one of them made a motion as if he intended IO land the alleged letters to Mrs. Smith. Instead he drew forth a revolver, which was dis charged. Mrs. Smith gave a loud scream, and her husband lushed downstairs in his njglit clothes. While on his wav he was shot dead by one of the ruffians, A man lam ed Clricli, who had gone to the house at the request of Smith, was shot in the leg.
