Placements o£ chicks for commercial broil er production (704,000). de clined 9 per cent from the previous week, but were 4 per cent above a year earlier. The 10-week total was 4 per cent above last year. Insh'ipments of broiler-type chicks totaled 767,000 or 75 per cent above last year while outshipments of 1,500,000 were down 20 per cent. Settings in the major pro ducing states totaled 53,836,000 eggs, about the same as the previous week but 7 per cent above a year earlier. The 3- week total was 5 per cent above last year. Placements for the week totaled 40,878,000 chicks, 2 per tent below a week earlier, but 4 per cent above a year ago. The 10-week total increased 2 per 'cent over last year. Moderate auction offerings met a good buying interest. Demand for ready to cook ranged from fair to good with featured sales a factor. Delive'rd prices slightly high er in. response to increased live cost and will remain high ly competitive with other pro duction areas. Estimated slaughter for the weekend by eastern shore pro cessors was 845,000 head com pared to the 866,000 head last weekend. Prices ranged 15.2 to 16.0 at farms on reported purchases of 1,092,300 head including 586,600 had offered and sold at Thursday’s sale at the Eastern Shore Poultry Growers Ex change. Thirty-eight per cent of the auction sales were at 15 5 to 15 8. The Delmarva broiler-feed ratio for the week ending July 24 was down one point from the previous week at 3.1 Broilers averaged 1511 per pound and mash cost the grow er $97 54 per ton.
