This was 3,000 head, or 5 percent more than were on leed the same date a year earlier. Starting with 80,000 on feed as of January 1 of both 1999 and 1964 the increase re fects a larger carryover with fewer marketed and more heaVy cattle on hand. Feeders expect to market many of these heavy cattle during the coming quarter and if they follow intentions will market 38,000 cattle in that time, up 5,000 from the same period a year earlier. U. S. Feeder Numbers On April 1, there were 8,265,- 000 cattle and calves on feed in 28 major feeding States for slaughter market, 1 percent more than a year earlier. In 32 States for which estimates are available this April, a total of 8,395,000 cattle and calves was on feed compared with a total of 9,085,000 head January 1, 1964, for these same States. The number on feed in the 28 States declined 7 percent from January 1 to April 1 this year compared with a 9 per cent decline for the same period m 1963. Members taking part in the program were Edith Bingha man and Carol Flora who gave a demonstration of the plant ing of flower seeds. Guest speaker was Mr. John Zuck whose hobby is taxi dermy.
