Poultry Center Highest In Oyer A Year Broilers averaged over 20 cents per pound for the first time since last February and the 20 43 average at the Jan uary 18 auction was higher than at any time during 1961. The sale average on 24 400 broilers in seven lots was almost three and a half cents above the 17 05 ave rage of last week. The high lot of broilers was 1.000 white vantress at 10 weeks, consigned by Mil ler and Bushong, and Glenn R Siegrist and bid in at 21 1 by Carl B Risser. All broil ers on offer were sold. Three lots of roasters failed-to sell at the bids of 19 to 21 9 Two lots of 5,500 leghorn fowl brought 8 to 8 5 while two lots of roasters contain ing 1,700 roasters sold at 24 2 per pound. Delmarva - Georgia Prices Highest Since February Delmarva reported live broiler prices averaged more than one cent higher to the highest level since February -20, 1961. Prices of 18.4 to 19 7 on 801,400 head at the farms was reported during the 34 hour period ending 10 30 Friday morning. Larg est percentage of the sales were at 19 to 19 4. Demand was very good for the light supplies. Esti mated slaughter for the we ek end by eastern shore pro cessors was 718,000 head compared with 727,000 head last week end. The Delmarva broiler-feed ratio for the week ending January 12 was steady with the previous week at 36. Broilers averaged 16 77 and mash cost the grower $94. per ton. The ratio for the comparable week a year ago was 4 0 when broilers brou ght 17 73 and mash cost the grower $B9 70 per ton.
