Imported Meats To Be Marked Beginning March 1, con sumers of Federally graded meat will be able to tell if what they buy is of foreign origin The U S Department of Agriculture today announ ced an amendment to Feder al meat grading regulations which will require that all imported meats be marked as such. The original proposal call ed for the amendment to go into effect Jan. 1, 1962, but in order to permit handlers of imported meats to obtain suitable marketing equip ment, the date was delayed until March 1, 1962. The Amendment will; 1. Require imported meats to bear an approved mark iden tifying the country of origin on most of the major retail cuts if the meat is to be Fed erally graded; 2 Require the applicant for meat grading service to notify the meat grader if the carcass or the wholesale cuts offered for grading are of foreign origiq; and 3. Provide for denial or withdrawal of meat grading service from any applicant who knowingly fails to pro vide the required informa tion regarding imported meat. • Yorkshire (From page 1) the pens of littermate gilts will hold the spotlight. Exhibition of bred gilts will begin on the following day at 8 am and official reg istration is set for 9 am. A short speaking program at 10 o’clock will be followed at 10.30 by the type classes and judging contest with seven classes to be placed. Showing of the fall boar classes will round out the competition on the 26th. Saturday, January 27 will see the fall gilt show at 8 a. m. with the results of the slaughtered animals and an nouncement of winners.
