16—Lancaster Farming. Saturday. March 25, 1961 Time Application Carefully For Best Alfalfa Weevil Control Under no circumstances should Dieldrin or Heptach lor be applied as an insecti cide on any forage crop this spring. County Agent, M M. Smith said this week. Dieldrin is recommended for use as a fall-applied con trol for both spittlebugs and alfalfa weevil, but heptachlor is not approved for use on any forage crop, Smith cau tioned. Where Dieldrin was used on alfalfa last fall, no spray application will be needed on the first cutting. Where Diel drin was not used last fall, a Methoxychlor spray will be needed for the control of weevil and spittle bug. The Spray should be de layed as long as possible for best control, taut when gen eral feeding by the larvae starts, farmers should be ready to move into the field The time will vary from field to field, but in most cases spraying date will be about May 10 Growers should keep close watch_ on the fields and not spray too soon. Reports indicate more fields are sprayed too early CHICK STARTER Blue Ridge Coupons will prove to you that NEST EGGS START ON BLUE RIDGE CHICK START ER.
