February 11, 1961 Soil Conservation Service Reports Years Activities The Soil Conservation Service, United States Depart- ment of Agriculture assisted the Lancaster County Soil • Conservation District in the establishing of the following ' conservation measures on farms in the District. There were 104 soil and water conservation plans pre pared for new cooperalors, 800 farms were serviced with more than 400 farms, applying one or more practices. The following amounts of practices were applied by farmers as sisted by the Soil Conservation Service staff, Martin Muth, Work Unit Conservationist, in charge: Crop Rotations Cover Crops Crop Residue Use Contour Farming & Strip Cropping Perennial Hay - Pasture Planting Pasture Improvement Tree Planting Proper Woodland Use Field Border Planting Hedgerow Planting Cut Back Borders Grassed Waterways and Constructed Outlets Diversions Crapland Terraces Open Drains Closed Drains Ponds Constructed Stream Channel Improvement 2700 Lineal Feet Land Clearing 4 Acres Obstruction Removal ." 7 71 Acres The staff for the Soil Conservation Service consisted of W.
