Rainfall is very important for good weed control, and under best conditions an inch of rain should fall with in a week of the chemical’s application. If there is no rain within two or three weeks, simazine will not kill weeds well al though it may retard then growth. Apply simazine prior to or during emergence, Powers says. Apply during planting operation, or within 7 days after planting. This chemical can be applied over the to tal area or banded over the row. , Rate of application is four pounds in 20 gallon of water per acre for an overall treat ment, and two pounds per acre in six to eight gallons of water when banded over the row. Use of-large capacity noz zles with 50 mesh screens, and proper agitation in tank, is recommended. Simazine will not injure corn if directions are follow ed.
