Slightly over a rmlion acres of winter wheat “allotment” land were put in the 1958 acreage re serve of the Soil Bank through the two week period ending Sept. 6, the U S Department of Agu culure announced Saturday. Here in Lancaster County 180 9 acres have been entered in the re serve by 23 producers. The dollar value totals $6,051 56 Last year only 34 agreements were made by the County Agricultural Conserva tion and Stabilization office. According to reports from state ASC committees in the 36 states of the commercial wheat area, 37,- 189 acreage reserve agreements, covering 1,005,952 acres, had been signed by farmers through Sept 6. Participating farmers will be eligible for payments totaling $20,574,724 if they comply with their agreements. In Pennsylvania 904 agreements for a total of 8,366 acres, with a maximum - payment of $231,173 possible, have been signed Last yeax at the same time 7,719 acres had been entered in the reserve For the nation daring the com parable period a year ago, 2,454,- 400 acres had been offered through 44,444 agreements for the 1957 winter wheat acreage le serve The maximum payment on this acreage totaled $46,175,096.
